Reconstructing High Dynamic Range (HDR) video from image sequences captured with alternating exposures is challenging, especially in the presence of large camera or object motion. Existing methods typically align low dynamic range sequences using optical flow or attention mechanism for deghosting. However, they often struggle to handle large complex motions and are computationally expensive. To address these challenges, we propose a robust and efficient flow estimator tailored for real-time HDR video reconstruction, named HDRFlow. HDRFlow has three novel designs: an HDR-domain alignment loss (HALoss), an efficient flow network with a multi-size large kernel (MLK), and a new HDR flow training scheme. The HALoss supervises our flow network to learn an HDR-oriented flow for accurate alignment in saturated and dark regions. The MLK can effectively model large motions at a negligible cost. In addition, we incorporate synthetic data, Sintel, into our training dataset, utilizing both its provided forward flow and backward flow generated by us to supervise our flow network, enhancing our performance in large motion regions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our HDRFlow outperforms previous methods on standard benchmarks. To the best of our knowledge, HDRFlow is the first real-time HDR video reconstruction method for video sequences captured with alternating exposures, capable of processing 720p resolution inputs at 25ms.
While recent advances in neural radiance field enable realistic digitization for large-scale scenes, the image-capturing process is still time-consuming and labor-intensive. Previous works attempt to automate this process using the Next-Best-View (NBV) policy for active 3D reconstruction. However, the existing NBV policies heavily rely on hand-crafted criteria, limited action space, or per-scene optimized representations. These constraints limit their cross-dataset generalizability. To overcome them, we propose GenNBV, an end-to-end generalizable NBV policy. Our policy adopts a reinforcement learning (RL)-based framework and extends typical limited action space to 5D free space. It empowers our agent drone to scan from any viewpoint, and even interact with unseen geometries during training. To boost the cross-dataset generalizability, we also propose a novel multi-source state embedding, including geometric, semantic, and action representations. We establish a benchmark using the Isaac Gym simulator with the Houses3K and OmniObject3D datasets to evaluate this NBV policy. Experiments demonstrate that our policy achieves a 98.26% and 97.12% coverage ratio on unseen building-scale objects from these datasets, respectively, outperforming prior solutions.
Detecting and magnifying imperceptible high-frequency motions in real-world scenarios has substantial implications for industrial and medical applications. These motions are characterized by small amplitudes and high frequencies. Traditional motion magnification methods rely on costly high-speed cameras or active light sources, which limit the scope of their applications. In this work, we propose a dual-camera system consisting of an event camera and a conventional RGB camera for video motion magnification, containing temporally-dense information from the event stream and spatially-dense data from the RGB images. This innovative combination enables a broad and cost-effective amplification of high-frequency motions. By revisiting the physical camera model, we observe that estimating motion direction and magnitude necessitates the integration of event streams with additional image features. On this basis, we propose a novel deep network for event-based video motion magnification that addresses two primary challenges: firstly, the high frequency of motion induces a large number of interpolated frames (up to 80), which our network mitigates with a Second-order Recurrent Propagation module for better handling of long-term frame interpolations; and secondly, magnifying subtle motions is sensitive to noise, which we address by utilizing a temporal filter to amplify motion at specific frequencies and reduce noise impact. We demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our dual-camera system and network through extensive experiments in magnifying small-amplitude, high-frequency motions, offering a cost-effective and flexible solution for motion detection and magnification.
In the realm of computer vision and robotics, embodied agents are expected to explore their environment and carry out human instructions. This necessitates the ability to fully understand 3D scenes given their first-person observations and contextualize them into language for interaction. However, traditional research focuses more on scene-level input and output setups from a global view. To address the gap, we introduce EmbodiedScan, a multi-modal, ego-centric 3D perception dataset and benchmark for holistic 3D scene understanding. It encompasses over 5k scans encapsulating 1M ego-centric RGB-D views, 1M language prompts, 160k 3D-oriented boxes spanning over 760 categories, some of which partially align with LVIS, and dense semantic occupancy with 80 common categories. Building upon this database, we introduce a baseline framework named Embodied Perceptron. It is capable of processing an arbitrary number of multi-modal inputs and demonstrates remarkable 3D perception capabilities, both within the two series of benchmarks we set up, i.e., fundamental 3D perception tasks and language-grounded tasks, and in the wild. We introduce a Depicted image Quality Assessment method (DepictQA), overcoming the constraints of traditional score-based approaches. DepictQA leverages Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs), allowing for detailed, language-based, human-like evaluation of image quality. Unlike conventional Image Quality Assessment (IQA) methods relying on scores, DepictQA interprets image content and distortions descriptively and comparatively, aligning closely with humans' reasoning process. To build the DepictQA model, we establish a hierarchical task framework, and collect a multi-modal IQA training dataset, named M-BAPPS. To navigate the challenges in limited training data and processing multiple images, we propose to use multi-source training data and specialized image tags. Our DepictQA demonstrates a better performance than score-based methods on the BAPPS benchmark. Moreover, compared with general MLLMs, our DepictQA can generate more accurate reasoning descriptive languages. Our research indicates that language-based IQA methods have the potential to be customized for individual preferences. Datasets and codes will be released publicly.
Most 3D generation research focuses on up-projecting 2D foundation models into the 3D space, either by minimizing 2D Score Distillation Sampling (SDS) loss or fine-tuning on multi-view datasets. Without explicit 3D priors, these methods often lead to geometric anomalies and multi-view inconsistency. Recently, researchers have attempted to improve the genuineness of 3D objects by directly training on 3D datasets, albeit at the cost of low-quality texture generation due to the limited texture diversity in 3D datasets. To harness the advantages of both approaches, we propose Bidirectional Diffusion(BiDiff), a unified framework that incorporates both a 3D and a 2D diffusion process, to preserve both 3D fidelity and 2D texture richness, respectively. Moreover, as a simple combination may yield inconsistent generation results, we further bridge them with novel bidirectional guidance. In addition, our method can be used as an initialization of optimization-based models to further improve the quality of 3D model and efficiency of optimization, reducing the generation process from 3.4 hours to 20 minutes. Experimental results have shown that our model achieves high-quality, diverse, and scalable 3D generation. Project website: https://bidiff.github.io/.
Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in novel view synthesis within 3D environments. However, extracting a radiance field of one specific object from multi-view images encounters substantial challenges due to occlusion and background complexity, thereby presenting difficulties in downstream applications such as NeRF editing and 3D mesh extraction. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose Obj-NeRF, a comprehensive pipeline that recovers the 3D geometry of a specific object from multi-view images using a single prompt. This method combines the 2D segmentation capabilities of the Segment Anything Model (SAM) in conjunction with the 3D reconstruction ability of NeRF. Specifically, we first obtain multi-view segmentation for the indicated object using SAM with a single prompt. Then, we use the segmentation images to supervise NeRF construction, integrating several effective techniques. Additionally, we construct a large object-level NeRF dataset containing diverse objects, which can be useful in various downstream tasks. To demonstrate the practicality of our method, we also apply Obj-NeRF to various applications, including object removal, rotation, replacement, and recoloring.
In this paper, we aim to solve complex real-world image restoration situations, in which, one image may have a variety of unknown degradations. To this end, we propose an all-in-one image restoration framework with latent diffusion (AutoDIR), which can automatically detect and address multiple unknown degradations. Our framework first utilizes a Blind Image Quality Assessment Module (BIQA) to automatically detect and identify the unknown dominant image degradation type of the image. Then, an All-in-One Image Refinement (AIR) Module handles multiple kinds of degradation image restoration with the guidance of BIQA. Finally, a Structure Correction Module (SCM) is proposed to recover the image details distorted by AIR. Our comprehensive evaluation demonstrates that AutoDIR outperforms state-of-the-art approaches by achieving superior restoration results while supporting a wider range of tasks. Notably, AutoDIR is also the first method to automatically handle real-scenario images with multiple unknown degradations.
Image denoising is a fundamental and challenging task in the field of computer vision. Most supervised denoising methods learn to reconstruct clean images from noisy inputs, which have intrinsic spectral bias and tend to produce over-smoothed and blurry images. Recently, researchers have explored diffusion models to generate high-frequency details in image restoration tasks, but these models do not guarantee that the generated texture aligns with real images, leading to undesirable artifacts. To address the trade-off between visual appeal and fidelity of high-frequency details in denoising tasks, we propose a novel approach called the Reconstruct-and-Generate Diffusion Model (RnG). Our method leverages a reconstructive denoising network to recover the majority of the underlying clean signal, which serves as the initial estimation for subsequent steps to maintain fidelity. Additionally, it employs a diffusion algorithm to generate residual high-frequency details, thereby enhancing visual quality. We further introduce a two-stage training scheme to ensure effective collaboration between the reconstructive and generative modules of RnG. To reduce undesirable texture introduced by the diffusion model, we also propose an adaptive step controller that regulates the number of inverse steps applied by the diffusion model, allowing control over the level of high-frequency details added to each patch as well as saving the inference computational cost. Through our proposed RnG, we achieve a better balance between perception and distortion. We conducted extensive experiments on both synthetic and real denoising datasets, validating the superiority of the proposed approach.
Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) are a powerful representation for modeling a 3D scene as a continuous function. Though NeRF is able to render complex 3D scenes with view-dependent effects, few efforts have been devoted to exploring its limits in a high-resolution setting. Specifically, existing NeRF-based methods face several limitations when reconstructing high-resolution real scenes, including a very large number of parameters, misaligned input data, and overly smooth details. In this work, we conduct the first pilot study on training NeRF with high-resolution data and propose the corresponding solutions: 1) marrying the multilayer perceptron (MLP) with convolutional layers which can encode more neighborhood information while reducing the total number of parameters; 2) a novel training strategy to address misalignment caused by moving objects or small camera calibration errors; and 3) a high-frequency aware loss. Our approach is nearly free without introducing obvious training/testing costs, while experiments on different datasets demonstrate that it can recover more high-frequency details compared with the current state-of-the-art NeRF models.
