To facilitate a prospective estimation of CT effective dose and risk minimization process, a prospective spatial dose estimation and the known anatomical structures are expected. To this end, a CT reconstruction method is required to reconstruct CT volumes from as few projections as possible, i.e. by using the topograms, with anatomical structures as correct as possible. In this work, an optimized CT reconstruction model based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) is proposed. The GAN is trained to reconstruct 3D volumes from an anterior-posterior and a lateral CT projection. To enhance anatomical structures, a pre-trained organ segmentation network and the 3D perceptual loss are applied during the training phase, so that the model can then generate both organ-enhanced CT volume and the organ segmentation mask. The proposed method can reconstruct CT volumes with PSNR of 26.49, RMSE of 196.17, and SSIM of 0.64, compared to 26.21, 201.55 and 0.63 using the baseline method. In terms of the anatomical structure, the proposed method effectively enhances the organ shape and boundary and allows for a straight-forward identification of the relevant anatomical structures. We note that conventional reconstruction metrics fail to indicate the enhancement of anatomical structures. In addition to such metrics, the evaluation is expanded with assessing the organ segmentation performance. The average organ dice of the proposed method is 0.71 compared with 0.63 in baseline model, indicating the enhancement of anatomical structures.
Recent advances in protein language models have catalyzed significant progress in peptide sequence representation. Despite extensive exploration in this field, pre-trained models tailored for peptide-specific needs remain largely unaddressed due to the difficulty in capturing the complex and sometimes unstable structures of peptides. This study introduces a novel multi-view contrastive learning framework PepHarmony for the sequence-based peptide encoding task. PepHarmony innovatively combines both sequence- and structure-level information into a sequence-level encoding module through contrastive learning. We carefully select datasets from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and AlphaFold database to encompass a broad spectrum of peptide sequences and structures. The experimental data highlights PepHarmony's exceptional capability in capturing the intricate relationship between peptide sequences and structures compared with the baseline and fine-tuned models. The robustness of our model is confirmed through extensive ablation studies, which emphasize the crucial roles of contrastive loss and strategic data sorting in enhancing predictive performance. The proposed PepHarmony framework serves as a notable contribution to peptide representations, and offers valuable insights for future applications in peptide drug discovery and peptide engineering. Constant gain least-mean-squares (LMS) algorithms have a wide range of applications in trajectory tracking problems, but the formal convergence of LMS in mean square is not yet fully established. This work provides an upper bound on the constant gain that guarantees a bounded mean-squared error of LMS for a general design vector. These results highlight the role of the fourth-order moment of the design vector. Numerical examples demonstrate the applicability of this upper bound in setting a constant gain in LMS, while existing criteria may fail. We also provide the associated error bound, which can be applied to design vectors with linearly dependent elements.
Temporally locating objects with arbitrary class texts is the primary pursuit of open-vocabulary Video Instance Segmentation (VIS). Because of the insufficient vocabulary of video data, previous methods leverage image-text pretraining model for recognizing object instances by separately aligning each frame and class texts, ignoring the correlation between frames. As a result, the separation breaks the instance movement context of videos, causing inferior alignment between video and text. To tackle this issue, we propose to link frame-level instance representations as a Brownian Bridge to model instance dynamics and align bridge-level instance representation to class texts for more precisely open-vocabulary VIS (BriVIS). Specifically, we build our system upon a frozen video segmentor to generate frame-level instance queries, and design Temporal Instance Resampler (TIR) to generate queries with temporal context from frame queries. To mold instance queries to follow Brownian bridge and accomplish alignment with class texts, we design Bridge-Text Alignment (BTA) to learn discriminative bridge-level representations of instances via contrastive objectives. Setting MinVIS as the basic video segmentor, BriVIS surpasses the Open-vocabulary SOTA (OV2Seg) by a clear margin. For example, on the challenging large-vocabulary VIS dataset (BURST), BriVIS achieves 7.43 mAP and exhibits 49.49% improvement compared to OV2Seg (4.97 mAP).
In the realm of household robotics, the Zero-Shot Object Navigation (ZSON) task empowers agents to adeptly traverse unfamiliar environments and locate objects from novel categories without prior explicit training. This paper introduces VoroNav, a novel semantic exploration framework that proposes the Reduced Voronoi Graph to extract exploratory paths and planning nodes from a semantic map constructed in real time. By harnessing topological and semantic information, VoroNav designs text-based descriptions of paths and images that are readily interpretable by a large language model (LLM). Our approach presents a synergy of path and farsight descriptions to represent the environmental context, enabling the LLM to apply commonsense reasoning to ascertain the optimal waypoints for navigation. Extensive evaluation on the HM3D and HSSD datasets validates that VoroNav surpasses existing ZSON benchmarks in both success rates and exploration efficiency (+2.8% Success and +3.7% SPL on HM3D, +2.6% Success and +3.8% SPL on HSSD). Additionally introduced metrics that evaluate obstacle avoidance proficiency and perceptual efficiency further corroborate the enhancements achieved by our method in ZSON planning.
Existing approaches to Implicit Neural Representation (INR) can be interpreted as a global scene representation via a linear combination of Fourier bases of different frequencies. However, such universal basis functions can limit the representation capability in local regions where a specific component is unnecessary, resulting in unpleasant artifacts. To this end, we introduce a learnable spatial mask that effectively dispatches distinct Fourier bases into respective regions. This translates into collaging Fourier patches, thus enabling an accurate representation of complex signals. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the superior reconstruction quality of the proposed approach over existing baselines across various INR tasks, including image fitting, video representation, and 3D shape representation. Our method outperforms all other baselines, improving the image fitting PSNR by over 3dB and 3D reconstruction to 98.81 IoU and 0.0011 Chamfer Distance.
With the open-sourcing of text-to-image models (T2I) such as stable diffusion (SD) and stable diffusion XL (SD-XL), there is an influx of models fine-tuned in specific domains based on the open-source SD model, such as in anime, character portraits, etc. However, there are few specialized models in certain domains, such as interior design, which is attributed to the complex textual descriptions and detailed visual elements inherent in design, alongside the necessity for adaptable resolution. Therefore, text-to-image models for interior design are required to have outstanding prompt-following capabilities, as well as iterative collaboration with design professionals to achieve the desired outcome. In this paper, we collect and optimize text-image data in the design field and continue training in both English and Chinese on the basis of the open-source CLIP model. We also proposed a fine-tuning strategy with curriculum learning and reinforcement learning from CLIP feedback to enhance the prompt-following capabilities of our approach so as to improve the quality of image generation. The experimental results on the collected dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, which achieves impressive results and outperforms strong baselines.
The integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT into the workflows of geotechnical engineering has a high potential to transform how the discipline approaches problem-solving and decision-making. This paper delves into the innovative application of LLMs in geotechnical engineering, as explored in a hands-on workshop held in Tokyo, Japan. The event brought together a diverse group of 20 participants, including students, researchers, and professionals from academia, industry, and government sectors, to investigate practical uses of LLMs in addressing specific geotechnical challenges. The workshop facilitated the creation of solutions for four different practical geotechnical problems as illustrative examples, culminating in the development of an academic paper. The paper discusses the potential of LLMs to transform geotechnical engineering practices, highlighting their proficiency in handling a range of tasks from basic data analysis to complex, multimodal problem-solving. It also addresses the challenges in implementing LLMs, particularly in achieving high precision and accuracy in specialized tasks, and underscores the need for expert oversight. The findings demonstrate LLMs' effectiveness in enhancing efficiency, data processing, and decision-making in geotechnical engineering, suggesting a paradigm shift towards more integrated, data-driven approaches in this field. This study not only showcases the potential of LLMs in a specific engineering domain, but also sets a precedent for their broader application in interdisciplinary research and practice, where the synergy of human expertise and artificial intelligence redefines the boundaries of problem-solving.
AI-Generated Content (AIGC), as a novel manner of providing Metaverse services in the forthcoming Internet paradigm, can resolve the obstacles of immersion requirements. Concurrently, edge computing, as an evolutionary paradigm of computing in communication systems, effectively augments real-time interactive services. In pursuit of enhancing the accessibility of AIGC services, the deployment of AIGC models (e.g., diffusion models) to edge servers and local devices has become a prevailing trend. Nevertheless, this approach faces constraints imposed by battery life and computational resources when tasks are offloaded to local devices, limiting the capacity to deliver high-quality content to users while adhering to stringent latency requirements. So there will be a tradeoff between the utility of AIGC models and offloading decisions in the edge computing paradigm. This paper proposes a joint optimization algorithm for offloading decisions, computation time, and diffusion steps of the diffusion models in the reverse diffusion stage. Moreover, we take the average error into consideration as the metric for evaluating the quality of the generated results. Experimental results conclusively demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves superior joint optimization performance compared to the baselines.
Image Retrieval aims to retrieve corresponding images based on a given query. In application scenarios, users intend to express their retrieval intent through various query styles. However, current retrieval tasks predominantly focus on text-query retrieval exploration, leading to limited retrieval query options and potential ambiguity or bias in user intention. In this paper, we propose the Style-Diversified Query-Based Image Retrieval task, which enables retrieval based on various query styles. To facilitate the novel setting, we propose the first Diverse-Style Retrieval dataset, encompassing diverse query styles including text, sketch, low-resolution, and art. We also propose a light-weighted style-diversified retrieval framework. For various query style inputs, we apply the Gram Matrix to extract the query's textural features and cluster them into a style space with style-specific bases. Then we employ the style-init prompt tuning module to enable the visual encoder to comprehend the texture and style information of the query. Experiments demonstrate that our model, employing the style-init prompt tuning strategy, outperforms existing retrieval models on the style-diversified retrieval task. Moreover, style-diversified queries~(sketch+text, art+text, etc) can be simultaneously retrieved in our model. The auxiliary information from other queries enhances the retrieval performance within the respective query.
