Despite the great advance of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) in both instruction dataset building and benchmarking, the independence of training and evaluation makes current MLLMs hard to further improve their capability under the guidance of evaluation results with a relatively low human cost. In this paper, we propose MLLM-DataEngine, a novel closed-loop system that bridges data generation, model training, and evaluation. Within each loop iteration, the MLLM-DataEngine first analyze the weakness of the model based on the evaluation results, then generate a proper incremental dataset for the next training iteration and enhance the model capability iteratively. Compared with previous data collection methods which are separate from the benchmarking, the data generated by MLLM-DataEngine shows better targeting, quality, and correctness. For targeting, we propose an Adaptive Bad-case Sampling module, which adjusts the ratio of different types of data within each incremental dataset based on the benchmarking results. For quality, we resort to GPT-4 to generate high-quality data with each given data type. For correctness, prompt design is critical for the data generation results. Rather than previous hand-crafted prompt, we propose an Interactive Prompt Optimization strategy, which optimizes the prompt with the multi-round interaction between human and GPT, and improve the correctness of generated data greatly. Through extensive experiments, we find our MLLM-DataEngine could boost the MLLM capability in a targeted and automatic manner, with only a few human participation. The MLLM-DataEngine will be released and we hope it could be a general solution for the following MLLMs building.
The integration of visual encoders and large language models (LLMs) has driven recent progress in multimodal large language models (MLLMs). However, the scarcity of high-quality instruction-tuning data for vision-language tasks remains a challenge. The current leading paradigm, such as LLaVA, relies on language-only GPT-4 to generate data, which requires pre-annotated image captions and detection bounding boxes, suffering from understanding image details. A practical solution to this problem would be to utilize the available multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to generate instruction data for vision-language tasks. However, it's worth noting that the currently accessible MLLMs are not as powerful as their LLM counterparts, as they tend to produce inadequate responses and generate false information. As a solution for addressing the current issue, this paper proposes the Visual Instruction Generation and Correction (VIGC) framework that enables multimodal large language models to generate instruction-tuning data and progressively enhance its quality on-the-fly. Specifically, Visual Instruction Generation (VIG) guides the vision-language model to generate diverse instruction-tuning data. To ensure generation quality, Visual Instruction Correction (VIC) adopts an iterative update mechanism to correct any inaccuracies in data produced by VIG, effectively reducing the risk of hallucination. Leveraging the diverse, high-quality data generated by VIGC, we finetune mainstream models and validate data quality based on various evaluations. Experimental results demonstrate that VIGC not only compensates for the shortcomings of language-only data generation methods, but also effectively enhances the benchmark performance. In order to coordinate energy interactions among various communities and energy conversions among multi-energy subsystems within the multi-community integrated energy system under uncertain conditions, and achieve overall optimization and scheduling of the comprehensive energy system, this paper proposes a comprehensive scheduling model that utilizes a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithm to learn load characteristics of different communities and make decisions based on this knowledge. In this model, the scheduling problem of the integrated energy system is transformed into a Markov decision process and solved using a data-driven deep reinforcement learning algorithm, which avoids the need for modeling complex energy coupling relationships between multi-communities and multi-energy subsystems. The simulation results show that the proposed method effectively captures the load characteristics of different communities and utilizes their complementary features to coordinate reasonable energy interactions among them. This leads to a reduction in wind curtailment rate from 16.3% to 0% and lowers the overall operating cost by 5445.6 Yuan, demonstrating significant economic and environmental benefits.
The rise in popularity of ChatGPT and GPT-4 has significantly accelerated the development of large models, leading to the creation of numerous impressive large language models(LLMs) and multimodal large language models (MLLMs). These cutting-edge models owe their remarkable performance to high-quality data. However, the details of the training data used in leading paradigms are often kept confidential. This lack of transparency, coupled with the scarcity of open-source data, impedes further developments within the community. As a response, this paper presents "Wan Juan", a large-scale multimodal dataset composed of both Chinese and English data, collected from a wide range of web sources. The dataset incorporates text, image-text, and video modalities, with a total volume exceeding 2TB. It was utilized in the training of InternLM, a model that demonstrated significant advantages in multi-dimensional evaluations when compared to models of a similar scale. We study the problem of few-shot physically-aware articulated mesh generation. By observing an articulated object dataset containing only a few examples, we wish to learn a model that can generate diverse meshes with high visual fidelity and physical validity. Previous mesh generative models either have difficulties in depicting a diverse data space from only a few examples or fail to ensure physical validity of their samples. Regarding the above challenges, we propose two key innovations, including 1) a hierarchical mesh deformation-based generative model based upon the divide-and-conquer philosophy to alleviate the few-shot challenge by borrowing transferrable deformation patterns from large scale rigid meshes and 2) a physics-aware deformation correction scheme to encourage physically plausible generations. We conduct extensive experiments on 6 articulated categories to demonstrate the superiority of our method in generating articulated meshes with better diversity, higher visual fidelity, and better physical validity over previous methods in the few-shot setting. Recovering the shape and appearance of real-world objects from natural 2D images is a long-standing and challenging inverse rendering problem. In this paper, we introduce a novel hybrid differentiable rendering method to efficiently reconstruct the 3D geometry and reflectance of a scene from multi-view images captured by conventional hand-held cameras. Our method follows an analysis-by-synthesis approach and consists of two phases. In the initialization phase, we use traditional SfM and MVS methods to reconstruct a virtual scene roughly matching the real scene. Then in the optimization phase, we adopt a hybrid approach to refine the geometry and reflectance, where the geometry is first optimized using an approximate differentiable rendering method, and the reflectance is optimized afterward using a physically-based differentiable rendering method. Our hybrid approach combines the efficiency of approximate methods with the high-quality results of physically-based methods. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real data demonstrate that our method can produce reconstructions with similar or higher quality than state-of-the-art methods while being more efficient.
Look-up table(LUT)-based methods have shown the great efficacy in single image super-resolution (SR) task. However, previous methods ignore the essential reason of restricted receptive field (RF) size in LUT, which is caused by the interaction of space and channel features in vanilla convolution. They can only increase the RF at the cost of linearly increasing LUT size. To enlarge RF with contained LUT sizes, we propose a novel Reconstructed Convolution(RC) module, which decouples channel-wise and spatial calculation. It can be formulated as $n^2$ 1D LUTs to maintain $n\times n$ receptive field, which is obviously smaller than $n\times n$D LUT formulated before. The LUT generated by our RC module reaches less than 1/10000 storage compared with SR-LUT baseline. The proposed Reconstructed Convolution module based LUT method, termed as RCLUT, can enlarge the RF size by 9 times than the state-of-the-art LUT-based SR method and achieve superior performance on five popular benchmark dataset. Moreover, the efficient and robust RC module can be used as a plugin to improve other LUT-based SR methods. The code is available at https://github.com/liuguandu/RC-LUT.
In recent years, there is an increasing demand for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to complete multiple applications. However, as unmanned equipments, UAVs lead to some security risks to general civil aviations. In order to strengthen the flight management of UAVs and guarantee the safety, UAVs can be equipped with automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) devices. In addition, as an automatic system, ADS-B can periodically broadcast flight information to the nearby aircrafts or the ground stations, and the technology is already used in civil aviation systems. However, due to the limited frequency of ADS-B technique, UAVs equipped with ADS-B devices result in the loss of packets to both UAVs and civil aviation. Further, the operation of civil aviation are seriously interfered. Hence, this paper firstly examines the packets loss of civil planes at different distance, then analyzes the impact of UAVs equipped with ADS-B on the packets updating of civil planes. The result indicates that the 1090MHz band blocking is affected by the density of UAVs. Besides, the frequency capacity is affected by the requirement of updating interval of civil planes. The position updating probability within 3s is 92.3% if there are 200 planes within 50km and 20 UAVs within 5km. The position updating probability within 3s is 86.9% if there are 200 planes within 50km and 40 UAVs within 5km.
We present the Chinese Elementary School Math Word Problems (CMATH) dataset, comprising 1.7k elementary school-level math word problems with detailed annotations, source from actual Chinese workbooks and exams. This dataset aims to provide a benchmark tool for assessing the following question: to what grade level of elementary school math do the abilities of popular large language models (LLMs) correspond? We evaluate a variety of popular LLMs, including both commercial and open-source options, and discover that only GPT-4 achieves success (accuracy $\geq$ 60\%) across all six elementary school grades, while other models falter at different grade levels. Furthermore, we assess the robustness of several top-performing LLMs by augmenting the original problems in the CMATH dataset with distracting information. Our findings reveal that GPT-4 is able to maintains robustness, while other model fail. We anticipate that our study will expose limitations in LLMs' arithmetic and reasoning capabilities, and promote their ongoing development and advancement.
Reliable pseudo-labels from unlabeled data play a key role in semi-supervised object detection (SSOD). However, the state-of-the-art SSOD methods all rely on pseudo-labels with high confidence, which ignore valuable pseudo-labels with lower confidence. Additionally, the insufficient excavation for unlabeled data results in an excessively low recall rate thus hurting the network training. In this paper, we propose a novel Low-confidence Samples Mining (LSM) method to utilize low-confidence pseudo-labels efficiently. Specifically, we develop an additional pseudo information mining (PIM) branch on account of low-resolution feature maps to extract reliable large-area instances, the IoUs of which are higher than small-area ones. Owing to the complementary predictions between PIM and the main branch, we further design self-distillation (SD) to compensate for both in a mutually-learning manner. Meanwhile, the extensibility of the above approaches enables our LSM to apply to Faster-RCNN and Deformable-DETR respectively. On the MS-COCO benchmark, our method achieves 3.54% mAP improvement over state-of-the-art methods under 5% labeling ratios.
