Temporal Knowledge Graph (TKG) reasoning is based on historical information to predict the future. Therefore, parsing and mining historical information is key to predicting the future. Most existing methods fail to concurrently address and comprehend historical information from both global and local perspectives. Neglecting the global view might result in overlooking macroscopic trends and patterns, while ignoring the local view can lead to missing critical detailed information. Additionally, some methods do not focus on learning from high-frequency repeating events, which means they may not fully grasp frequently occurring historical events. To this end, we propose the \textbf{R}epetitive-\textbf{L}ocal-\textbf{G}lobal History \textbf{Net}work(RLGNet). We utilize a global history encoder to capture the overarching nature of historical information. Subsequently, the local history encoder provides information related to the query timestamp. Finally, we employ the repeating history encoder to identify and learn from frequently occurring historical events. In the evaluation on six benchmark datasets, our approach generally outperforms existing TKG reasoning models in multi-step and single-step reasoning tasks.
Traffic prediction constitutes a pivotal facet within the purview of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and the attainment of highly precise predictions holds profound significance for efficacious traffic management. The precision of prevailing deep learning-driven traffic prediction models typically sees an upward trend with a rise in the volume of training data. However, the procurement of comprehensive spatiotemporal datasets for traffic is often fraught with challenges, primarily stemming from the substantial costs associated with data collection and retention. Consequently, developing a model that can achieve accurate predictions and good generalization ability in areas with limited historical traffic data is a challenging problem. It is noteworthy that the rapidly advancing pretrained Large Language Models (LLMs) of recent years have demonstrated exceptional proficiency in cross-modality knowledge transfer and few-shot learning. Recognizing the sequential nature of traffic data, similar to language, we introduce TPLLM, a novel traffic prediction framework leveraging LLMs. In this framework, we construct a sequence embedding layer based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and a graph embedding layer based on Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) to extract sequence features and spatial features, respectively. These are subsequently integrated to form inputs that are suitable for LLMs. A Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) fine-tuning approach is applied to TPLLM, thereby facilitating efficient learning and minimizing computational demands. Experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate that TPLLM exhibits commendable performance in both full-sample and few-shot prediction scenarios, effectively supporting the development of ITS in regions with scarce historical traffic data.
Historically, the economic recession often came abruptly and disastrously. For instance, during the 2008 financial crisis, the SP 500 fell 46 percent from October 2007 to March 2009. If we could detect the signals of the crisis earlier, we could have taken preventive measures. Therefore, driven by such motivation, we use advanced machine learning techniques, including Random Forest and Extreme Gradient Boosting, to predict any potential market crashes mainly in the US market. Also, we would like to compare the performance of these methods and examine which model is better for forecasting US stock market crashes. We apply our models on the daily financial market data, which tend to be more responsive with higher reporting frequencies. We consider 75 explanatory variables, including general US stock market indexes, SP 500 sector indexes, as well as market indicators that can be used for the purpose of crisis prediction. Finally, we conclude, with selected classification metrics, that the Extreme Gradient Boosting method performs the best in predicting US stock market crisis events.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT) are two of the sustained arrhythmias that significantly affect the quality of life of patients. Treatment of AF and VT often requires radiofrequency ablation of heart tissues using an ablation catheter. Recent progress in ablation therapy leverages magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for higher contrast visual feedback, and additionally utilizes a guiding sheath with an actively deflectable tip to improve the dexterity of the catheter inside the heart. This paper presents the design and validation of an MR-conditional robotic module for automated actuation of both the ablation catheter and the sheath. The robotic module features a compact design for improved accessibility inside the MR scanner bore and is driven by piezoelectric motors to ensure MR-conditionality. The combined catheter-sheath mechanism is essentially a concentric tendon-driven continuum robot and its kinematics is modeled by the constant curvature model for closed-loop position control. Path following experiments were conducted to validate the actuation module and control scheme, achieving < 2 mm average tip position error.
Since DARPA Grand Challenges (rural) in 2004/05 and Urban Challenges in 2007, autonomous driving has been the most active field of AI applications. Recently powered by large language models (LLMs), chat systems, such as chatGPT and PaLM, emerge and rapidly become a promising direction to achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI) in natural language processing (NLP). There comes a natural thinking that we could employ these abilities to reformulate autonomous driving. By combining LLM with foundation models, it is possible to utilize the human knowledge, commonsense and reasoning to rebuild autonomous driving systems from the current long-tailed AI dilemma. In this paper, we investigate the techniques of foundation models and LLMs applied for autonomous driving, categorized as simulation, world model, data annotation and planning or E2E solutions etc.
MR-guided microwave ablation (MWA) has proven effective in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with small-sized tumors, but the state-of-the-art technique suffers from sub-optimal workflow due to speed and accuracy of needle placement. This paper presents a compact body-mounted MR-conditional robot that can operate in closed-bore MR scanners for accurate needle guidance. The robotic platform consists of two stacked Cartesian XY stages, each with two degrees of freedom, that facilitate needle guidance. The robot is actuated using 3D-printed pneumatic turbines with MR-conditional bevel gear transmission systems. Pneumatic valves and control mechatronics are located inside the MRI control room and are connected to the robot with pneumatic transmission lines and optical fibers. Free space experiments indicated robot-assisted needle insertion error of 2.6$\pm$1.3 mm at an insertion depth of 80 mm. The MR-guided phantom studies were conducted to verify the MR-conditionality and targeting performance of the robot. Future work will focus on the system optimization and validations in animal trials.
We study neural image compression based on the Sparse Visual Representation (SVR), where images are embedded into a discrete latent space spanned by learned visual codebooks. By sharing codebooks with the decoder, the encoder transfers integer codeword indices that are efficient and cross-platform robust, and the decoder retrieves the embedded latent feature using the indices for reconstruction. Previous SVR-based compression lacks effective mechanism for rate-distortion tradeoffs, where one can only pursue either high reconstruction quality or low transmission bitrate. We propose a Masked Adaptive Codebook learning (M-AdaCode) method that applies masks to the latent feature subspace to balance bitrate and reconstruction quality. A set of semantic-class-dependent basis codebooks are learned, which are weighted combined to generate a rich latent feature for high-quality reconstruction. The combining weights are adaptively derived from each input image, providing fidelity information with additional transmission costs. By masking out unimportant weights in the encoder and recovering them in the decoder, we can trade off reconstruction quality for transmission bits, and the masking rate controls the balance between bitrate and distortion. Experiments over the standard JPEG-AI dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our M-AdaCode approach.
Continuum robots (CR) offer excellent dexterity and compliance in contrast to rigid-link robots, making them suitable for navigating through, and interacting with, confined environments. However, the study of path planning for CRs while considering external elastic contact is limited. The challenge lies in the fact that CRs can have multiple possible configurations when in contact, rendering the forward kinematics not well-defined, and characterizing the set of feasible robot configurations as non-trivial. In this paper, we propose to solve this problem by performing quasi-static path planning on an implicit manifold. We model elastic obstacles as external potential fields and formulate the robot statics in the potential field as the extremal trajectory of an optimal control problem obtained by the first-order variational principle. We show that the set of stable robot configurations is a smooth manifold diffeomorphic to a submanifold embedded in the product space of the CR actuation and base internal wrench. We then propose to perform path planning on this manifold using AtlasRRT*, a sampling-based planner dedicated to planning on implicit manifolds. Simulations in different operation scenarios were conducted and the results show that the proposed planner outperforms Euclidean space planners in terms of success rate and computational efficiency.
