Kinship Verification through a Forest Neural Network

Early methods used face representations in kinship verification, which are less accurate than joint representations of parents' and children's facial images learned from scratch. We propose an approach featuring graph neural network concepts to utilize face representations and have comparable results to joint representation algorithms. Moreover, we designed the structure of the classification module and introduced a new combination of losses to engage the center loss gradually in training our network. Additionally, we conducted experiments on KinFaceW-I and II, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach. We achieved the best result on KinFaceW-II, an average improvement of nearly 1.6 for all kinship types, and we were near the best on KinFaceW-I. CLIP Under the Microscope: A Fine-Grained Analysis of Multi-Object Representation

Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) models excel in zero-shot classification, yet face challenges in complex multi-object scenarios. This study offers a comprehensive analysis of CLIP's limitations in these contexts using a specialized dataset, ComCO, designed to evaluate CLIP's encoders in diverse multi-object scenarios. Our findings reveal significant biases: the text encoder prioritizes first-mentioned objects, and the image encoder favors larger objects. Through retrieval and classification tasks, we quantify these biases across multiple CLIP variants and trace their origins to CLIP's training process, supported by analyses of the LAION dataset and training progression. Our image-text matching experiments show substantial performance drops when object size or token order changes, underscoring CLIP's instability with rephrased but semantically similar captions. Extending this to longer captions and text-to-image models like Stable Diffusion, we demonstrate how prompt order influences object prominence in generated images. Analyzing CLIP's Performance Limitations in Multi-Object Scenarios: A Controlled High-Resolution Study

Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) models have demonstrated remarkable performance in zero-shot classification tasks, yet their efficacy in handling complex multi-object scenarios remains challenging. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of CLIP's performance limitations in multi-object contexts through controlled experiments. We introduce two custom datasets, SimCO and CompCO, to evaluate CLIP's image and text encoders in various multi-object configurations. Our findings reveal significant biases in both encoders: the image encoder favors larger objects, while the text encoder prioritizes objects mentioned first in descriptions. We hypothesize these biases originate from CLIP's training process and provide evidence through analyses of the COCO dataset and CLIP's training progression. Additionally, we extend our investigation to Stable Diffusion models, revealing that biases in the CLIP text encoder significantly impact text-to-image generation tasks. Our experiments demonstrate how these biases affect CLIP's performance in image-caption matching and generation tasks, particularly when manipulating object sizes and their order in captions. This work contributes valuable insights into CLIP's behavior in complex visual environments and highlights areas for improvement in future vision-language models.

Predicting Drive Test Results in Mobile Networks Using Optimization Techniques

Mobile network operators constantly optimize their networks to ensure superior service quality and coverage. This optimization is crucial for maintaining an optimal user experience and requires extensive data collection and analysis. One of the primary methods for gathering this data is through drive tests, where technical teams use specialized equipment to collect signal information across various regions. However, drive tests are both costly and time-consuming, and they face challenges such as traffic conditions, environmental factors, and limited access to certain areas. These constraints make it difficult to replicate drive tests under similar conditions. In this study, we propose a method that enables operators to predict received signal strength at specific locations using data from other drive test points. By reducing the need for widespread drive tests, this approach allows operators to save time and resources while still obtaining the necessary data to optimize their networks and mitigate the challenges associated with traditional drive tests.

Fine-Tuning Topics through Weighting Aspect Keywords

Topic modeling often requires examining topics from multiple perspectives to uncover hidden patterns, especially in less explored areas. This paper presents an approach to address this need, utilizing weighted keywords from various aspects derived from a domain knowledge. The research method starts with standard topic modeling. Then, it adds a process consisting of four key steps. First, it defines keywords for each aspect. Second, it gives weights to these keywords based on their relevance. Third, it calculates relevance scores for aspect-weighted keywords and topic keywords to create aspect-topic models. Fourth, it uses these scores to tune relevant new documents. Finally, the generated topic models are interpreted and validated. The findings show that top-scoring documents are more likely to be about the same aspect of a topic. This highlights the model's effectiveness in finding the related documents to the aspects.

Deepfake Detection of Occluded Images Using a Patch-based Approach

DeepFake involves the use of deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques to produce or change video and image contents typically generated by GANs. Moreover, it can be misused and leads to fictitious news, ethical and financial crimes, and also affects the performance of facial recognition systems. Thus, detection of real or fake images is significant specially to authenticate originality of people's images or videos. One of the most important challenges in this topic is obstruction that decreases the system precision. In this study, we present a deep learning approach using the entire face and face patches to distinguish real/fake images in the presence of obstruction with a three-path decision: first entire-face reasoning, second a decision based on the concatenation of feature vectors of face patches, and third a majority vote decision based on these features. To test our approach, new datasets including real and fake images are created. For producing fake images, StyleGAN and StyleGAN2 are trained by FFHQ images and also StarGAN and PGGAN are trained by CelebA images. The CelebA and FFHQ datasets are used as real images. The proposed approach reaches higher results in early epochs than other methods and increases the SoTA results by 0.4\%-7.9\% in the different built data-sets. Also, we have shown in experimental results that weighing the patches may improve accuracy.
