Large Language Models for Token-Efficient and Semantic-Preserving Opinion Summarization

Opinionated text - spanning product reviews, hotel feedback, and social posts - captures rich signals about user experiences, preferences, and concerns. However, the scale, redundancy, and imbalance of such corpora make it challenging to analyze opinions effectively, particularly when the goal is to generate summaries that remain faithful to the diversity of viewpoints expressed. This paper presents a framework that preserves semantics in LLM-based opinion summarization while minimizing token usage. We combine multidimensional classification (e.g., sentiment, topics) with a family of stratified sampling strategies to select compact yet representative subsets of opinions before prompting the LLM. Tailored prompts then produce balanced summaries that surface the salient aspects expressed in the opinions (e.g., strengths and weaknesses of products/hotels). Experiments on Amazon product reviews, Tripadvisor hotel reviews, and X/Twitter posts demonstrate that our method significantly reduces token usage and computational cost while consistently outperforming traditional AI-based and standard LLM summarization baselines in terms of content coverage, balance, and semantic preservation.

LLM-as-an-Investigator: Evidence-First Reasoning for Robust Interactive Problem Diagnosis

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used as interactive assistants for technical problem solving. However, when users provide incomplete descriptions or plausible but unverified explanations, LLMs may prematurely align with these assumptions and propose solutions before collecting sufficient evidence. We refer to this behavior as user-driven sycophancy: the tendency of an LLM to reinforce a user-provided hypothesis instead of testing alternative explanations. This paper introduces LLM-as-an-Investigator, an evidence-first agentic AI methodology for robust problem diagnosis. The approach is implemented through a Solution Investigator Agent, which estimates the ambiguity of an initial problem description, generates candidate hypotheses, asks targeted clarification questions, and updates hypothesis probabilities after each answer. Rather than producing an immediate response, the agent continues the investigation until the evidence makes one candidate explanation stronger than the alternatives. To evaluate the approach, we build a benchmark from solved technical forum threads in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic domains. We use a three-agent evaluation pipeline in which a Problem-Solution Extractor Agent converts solved threads into structured cases, a Ground-Truth Evaluator Agent simulates the user while hiding the known solution, and the tested assistant attempts to recover the solution through dialogue. The experiments compare standard assistants, reasoning-oriented LLMs, and the proposed investigator-based model across LLM backbones. In addition to diagnostic accuracy, we analyze how standard assistants follow misleading user hypotheses in diagnostic cases. The results show that the proposed approach identifies the problem more accurately than direct prompting and reasoning-only baselines, while its evidence-first protocol helps reduce user-induced conversational bias.

Explainable Detection of Depression Status Shifts from User Digital Traces

Every day, users generate digital traces (e.g., social media posts, chats, and online interactions) that are inherently timestamped and may reflect aspects of their mental state. These traces can be organized into temporal trajectories that capture how a user's mental health signals evolve, including phases of improvement, deterioration, or stability. In this work, we propose an explainable framework for detecting and analyzing depression-related status shifts in user digital traces. The approach combines multiple BERT-based models to extract complementary signals across different dimensions (e.g., sentiment, emotion, and depression severity). Such signals are then aggregated over time to construct user-level trajectories that are analyzed to identify meaningful change points. To enhance interpretability, the framework integrates a large language model to generate concise and human-readable reports that describe the evolution of mental-health signals and highlight key transitions. We evaluate the framework on two social media datasets. Results show that the approach produces more coherent and informative summaries than direct LLM-based reporting, achieving higher coverage of user history, stronger temporal coherence, and improved sensitivity to change points. An ablation study confirms the contribution of each component, particularly temporal modeling and segmentation. Overall, the method provides an interpretable view of mental health signals over time, supporting research and decision making without aiming at clinical diagnosis.

Generative AI in Managerial Decision-Making: Redefining Boundaries through Ambiguity Resolution and Sycophancy Analysis

Generative artificial intelligence is increasingly being integrated into complex business workflows, fundamentally shifting the boundaries of managerial decision-making. However, the reliability of its strategic advice in ambiguous business contexts remains a critical knowledge gap. This study addresses this by comparing various models on ambiguity detection, evaluating how a systematic resolution process enhances response quality, and investigating their sycophantic behavior when presented with flawed directives. Using a novel four-dimensional business ambiguity taxonomy, we conducted a human-in-the-loop experiment across strategic, tactical, and operational scenarios. The resulting decisions were assessed with an "LLM-as-a-judge" framework on criteria including agreement, actionability, justification quality, and constraint adherence. Results reveal distinct performance capabilities. While models excel in detecting internal contradictions and contextual ambiguities, they struggle with structural linguistic nuances. Ambiguity resolution consistently increased response quality across all decision types, while sycophantic behavior analysis revealed distinct patterns depending on the model architecture. This study contributes to the bounded rationality literature by positioning GAI as a cognitive scaffold that can detect and resolve ambiguities managers might overlook, but whose own artificial limitations necessitate human management to ensure its reliability as a strategic partner.

CyberRAG: An agentic RAG cyber attack classification and reporting tool

Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS) in large enterprises can generate hundreds of thousands of alerts per hour, overwhelming security analysts with logs that demand deep, rapidly evolving domain expertise. Conventional machine-learning detectors trim the alert volume but still yield high false-positive rates, while standard single-pass Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines often retrieve irrelevant context and fail to justify their predictions. To overcome these shortcomings, we present CyberRAG, a modular, agent-based RAG framework that delivers real-time classification, explanation, and structured reporting for cyber-attacks. A central LLM agent orchestrates (i) a pool of fine-tuned specialized classifiers, each tailored to a distinct attack family; (ii) tool adapters for enrichment and alerting; and (iii) an iterative retrieval-and-reason loop that continuously queries a domain-specific knowledge base until the evidence is both relevant and self-consistent. Unlike traditional RAG systems, CyberRAG embraces an agentic design that enables dynamic control flow and adaptive reasoning. This agent-centric architecture refines its threat labels and natural-language justifications autonomously, reducing false positives and enhancing interpretability. The framework is fully extensible: new attack types can be supported by simply adding a classifier without retraining the core agent. CyberRAG has been evaluated achieving over 94% accuracy per class and pushing final classification accuracy to 94.92% through semantic orchestration. Generated explanations score up to 0.94 in BERTScore and 4.9/5 in GPT-4-based expert evaluation. These results show that agentic, specialist-oriented RAG can pair high detection accuracy with trustworthy, SOC-ready prose, offering a practical and scalable path toward semi-autonomous cyber-defence workflows.

Iterative Resolution of Prompt Ambiguities Using a Progressive Cutting-Search Approach

Generative AI systems have revolutionized human interaction by enabling natural language-based coding and problem solving. However, the inherent ambiguity of natural language often leads to imprecise instructions, forcing users to iteratively test, correct, and resubmit their prompts. We propose an iterative approach that systematically narrows down these ambiguities through a structured series of clarification questions and alternative solution proposals, illustrated with input/output examples as well. Once every uncertainty is resolved, a final, precise solution is generated. Evaluated on a diverse dataset spanning coding, data analysis, and creative writing, our method demonstrates superior accuracy, competitive resolution times, and higher user satisfaction compared to conventional one-shot solutions, which typically require multiple manual iterations to achieve a correct output.

Enhancing Surgical Documentation through Multimodal Visual-Temporal Transformers and Generative AI

The automatic summarization of surgical videos is essential for enhancing procedural documentation, supporting surgical training, and facilitating post-operative analysis. This paper presents a novel method at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine, aiming to develop machine learning models with direct real-world applications in surgical contexts. We propose a multi-modal framework that leverages recent advancements in computer vision and large language models to generate comprehensive video summaries. % The approach is structured in three key stages. First, surgical videos are divided into clips, and visual features are extracted at the frame level using visual transformers. This step focuses on detecting tools, tissues, organs, and surgical actions. Second, the extracted features are transformed into frame-level captions via large language models. These are then combined with temporal features, captured using a ViViT-based encoder, to produce clip-level summaries that reflect the broader context of each video segment. Finally, the clip-level descriptions are aggregated into a full surgical report using a dedicated LLM tailored for the summarization task. % We evaluate our method on the CholecT50 dataset, using instrument and action annotations from 50 laparoscopic videos. The results show strong performance, achieving 96\% precision in tool detection and a BERT score of 0.74 for temporal context summarization. This work contributes to the advancement of AI-assisted tools for surgical reporting, offering a step toward more intelligent and reliable clinical documentation.

Multi-Stakeholder Disaster Insights from Social Media Using Large Language Models

In recent years, social media has emerged as a primary channel for users to promptly share feedback and issues during disasters and emergencies, playing a key role in crisis management. While significant progress has been made in collecting and analyzing social media content, there remains a pressing need to enhance the automation, aggregation, and customization of this data to deliver actionable insights tailored to diverse stakeholders, including the press, police, EMS, and firefighters. This effort is essential for improving the coordination of activities such as relief efforts, resource distribution, and media communication. This paper presents a methodology that leverages the capabilities of LLMs to enhance disaster response and management. Our approach combines classification techniques with generative AI to bridge the gap between raw user feedback and stakeholder-specific reports. Social media posts shared during catastrophic events are analyzed with a focus on user-reported issues, service interruptions, and encountered challenges. We employ full-spectrum LLMs, using analytical models like BERT for precise, multi-dimensional classification of content type, sentiment, emotion, geolocation, and topic. Generative models such as ChatGPT are then used to produce human-readable, informative reports tailored to distinct audiences, synthesizing insights derived from detailed classifications. We compare standard approaches, which analyze posts directly using prompts in ChatGPT, to our advanced method, which incorporates multi-dimensional classification, sub-event selection, and tailored report generation. Our methodology demonstrates superior performance in both quantitative metrics, such as text coherence scores and latent representations, and qualitative assessments by automated tools and field experts, delivering precise insights for diverse disaster response stakeholders.

Dynamic hashtag recommendation in social media with trend shift detection and adaptation

The widespread use of social media platforms results in the generation of vast amounts of user-generated content, which requires efficient methods for categorization and search. Hashtag recommendation systems have emerged as a crucial tool for automatically suggesting relevant hashtags and improving content discoverability. However, existing static models struggle to adapt to the highly dynamic and real-time nature of social media conversations, where new hashtags emerge and existing ones undergo semantic shifts. To address these challenges, this paper presents H-ADAPTS (Hashtag recommendAtion by Detecting and adAPting to Trend Shifts), a BERT-based hashtag recommendation methodology that can detect and adapt to shifts in the main trends and topics underlying social media conversation. Our approach introduces a trend-aware detection mechanism to identify changes in hashtag usage, triggering efficient model adaptation on a (small) set of recent posts. The framework leverages Apache Storm for real-time stream processing, enabling scalable and fault-tolerant analysis of high-velocity social data. Experimental results on two real-world case studies, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 US presidential election, demonstrate the ability to maintain high recommendation accuracy by adapting to emerging trends. Our methodology significantly outperforms existing solutions, ensuring timely and relevant hashtag recommendations in dynamic environments.

Detecting mental disorder on social media: a ChatGPT-augmented explainable approach

In the digital era, the prevalence of depressive symptoms expressed on social media has raised serious concerns, necessitating advanced methodologies for timely detection. This paper addresses the challenge of interpretable depression detection by proposing a novel methodology that effectively combines Large Language Models (LLMs) with eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and conversational agents like ChatGPT. In our methodology, explanations are achieved by integrating BERTweet, a Twitter-specific variant of BERT, into a novel self-explanatory model, namely BERT-XDD, capable of providing both classification and explanations via masked attention. The interpretability is further enhanced using ChatGPT to transform technical explanations into human-readable commentaries. By introducing an effective and modular approach for interpretable depression detection, our methodology can contribute to the development of socially responsible digital platforms, fostering early intervention and support for mental health challenges under the guidance of qualified healthcare professionals.
