Association Rule Based Flexible Machine Learning Module for Embedded System Platforms like Android

The past few years have seen a tremendous growth in the popularity of smartphones. As newer features continue to be added to smartphones to increase their utility, their significance will only increase in future. Combining machine learning with mobile computing can enable smartphones to become 'intelligent' devices, a feature which is hitherto unseen in them. Also, the combination of machine learning and context aware computing can enable smartphones to gauge user's requirements proactively, depending upon their environment and context. Accordingly, necessary services can be provided to users. In this paper, we have explored the methods and applications of integrating machine learning and context aware computing on the Android platform, to provide higher utility to the users. To achieve this, we define a Machine Learning (ML) module which is incorporated in the basic Android architecture. Firstly, we have outlined two major functionalities that the ML module should provide. Then, we have presented three architectures, each of which incorporates the ML module at a different level in the Android architecture. The advantages and shortcomings of each of these architectures have been evaluated. Lastly, we have explained a few applications in which our proposed system can be incorporated such that their functionality is improved.

Implementation of Hand Detection based Techniques for Human Computer Interaction

The computer industry is developing at a fast pace. With this development almost all of the fields under computers have advanced in the past couple of decades. But the same technology is being used for human computer interaction that was used in 1970s. Even today the same type of keyboard and mouse is used for interacting with computer systems. With the recent boom in the mobile segment touchscreens have become popular for interaction with cell phones. But these touchscreens are rarely used on traditional systems. This paper tries to introduce methods for human computer interaction using the users hand which can be used both on traditional computer platforms as well as cell phones. The methods explain how the users detected hand can be used as input for applications and also explain applications that can take advantage of this type of interaction mechanism.

Path Based Mapping Technique for Robots

The purpose of this paper is to explore a new way of autonomous mapping. Current systems using perception techniques like LAZER or SONAR use probabilistic methods and have a drawback of allowing considerable uncertainty in the mapping process. Our approach is to break down the environment, specifically indoor, into reachable areas and objects, separated by boundaries, and identifying their shape, to render various navigable paths around them. This is a novel method to do away with uncertainties, as far as possible, at the cost of temporal efficiency. Also this system demands only minimum and cheap hardware, as it relies on only Infra-Red sensors to do the job.

Predicting Students' Performance Using ID3 And C4.5 Classification Algorithms

An educational institution needs to have an approximate prior knowledge of enrolled students to predict their performance in future academics. This helps them to identify promising students and also provides them an opportunity to pay attention to and improve those who would probably get lower grades. As a solution, we have developed a system which can predict the performance of students from their previous performances using concepts of data mining techniques under Classification. We have analyzed the data set containing information about students, such as gender, marks scored in the board examinations of classes X and XII, marks and rank in entrance examinations and results in first year of the previous batch of students. By applying the ID3 (Iterative Dichotomiser 3) and C4.5 classification algorithms on this data, we have predicted the general and individual performance of freshly admitted students in future examinations.
