Most publicly available datasets for image classification are with single labels, while images are inherently multi-labeled in our daily life. Such an annotation gap makes many pre-trained single-label classification models fail in practical scenarios. This annotation issue is more concerned for aerial images: Aerial data collected from sensors naturally cover a relatively large land area with multiple labels, while annotated aerial datasets, which are publicly available (e.g., UCM, AID), are single-labeled. As manually annotating multi-label aerial images would be time/labor-consuming, we propose a novel self-correction integrated domain adaptation (SCIDA) method for automatic multi-label learning. SCIDA is weakly supervised, i.e., automatically learning the multi-label image classification model from using massive, publicly available single-label images. To achieve this goal, we propose a novel Label-Wise self-Correction (LWC) module to better explore underlying label correlations. This module also makes the unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) from single- to multi-label data possible. For model training, the proposed model only uses single-label information yet requires no prior knowledge of multi-labeled data; and it predicts labels for multi-label aerial images. In our experiments, trained with single-labeled MAI-AID-s and MAI-UCM-s datasets, the proposed model is tested directly on our collected Multi-scene Aerial Image (MAI) dataset.
Human pose estimation has achieved significant progress in recent years. However, most of the recent methods focus on improving accuracy using complicated models and ignoring real-time efficiency. To achieve a better trade-off between accuracy and efficiency, we propose a novel neural architecture search (NAS) method, termed ViPNAS, to search networks in both spatial and temporal levels for fast online video pose estimation. In the spatial level, we carefully design the search space with five different dimensions including network depth, width, kernel size, group number, and attentions. In the temporal level, we search from a series of temporal feature fusions to optimize the total accuracy and speed across multiple video frames. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to search for the temporal feature fusion and automatic computation allocation in videos. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on the challenging COCO2017 and PoseTrack2018 datasets. Our discovered model family, S-ViPNAS and T-ViPNAS, achieve significantly higher inference speed (CPU real-time) without sacrificing the accuracy compared to the previous state-of-the-art methods.
We present a new certification method for image and point cloud segmentation based on randomized smoothing. The method leverages a novel scalable algorithm for prediction and certification that correctly accounts for multiple testing, necessary for ensuring statistical guarantees. The key to our approach is reliance on established multiple-testing correction mechanisms as well as the ability to abstain from classifying single pixels or points while still robustly segmenting the overall input. Our experimental evaluation on synthetic data and challenging datasets, such as Pascal Context, Cityscapes, and ShapeNet, shows that our algorithm can achieve, for the first time, competitive accuracy and certification guarantees on real-world segmentation tasks. Recent machine learning advances have proposed black-box estimation of unknown continuous-time system dynamics directly from data. However, earlier works are based on approximative ODE solutions or point estimates. We propose a novel Bayesian nonparametric model that uses Gaussian processes to infer posteriors of unknown ODE systems directly from data. We derive sparse variational inference with decoupled functional sampling to represent vector field posteriors. We also introduce a probabilistic shooting augmentation to enable efficient inference from arbitrarily long trajectories. The method demonstrates the benefit of computing vector field posteriors, with predictive uncertainty scores outperforming alternative methods on multiple ODE learning tasks.
This paper analysed author-assigned and title keywords into constituent words collected from 769 articles published in the journal Low Temperature Physics since the year 2006 to 2010. The total number of distinct keywords over the said time span has been found as 1155, which have been analyzed into 869 numbers of single words having total frequency of occurrence of 2287. The single words obtained from keywords have been categorized in four broad classes, viz. eponymous word, form word, acronym and semantic word. A semantic word bears several contexts and thus may be considered as relevant in several other subject areas. These probable relevant subject areas have been found with the aid of two popular online reference tools. The semantic words are further categorized in twelve classes according to their contexts. Some parameters have been defined on the basis of associations among the words and formation of keywords in consequence, i.e. Word Association Density, Word Association Coefficient and Keyword Formation Density. The values of these parameters have been observed for different word categories. The statistics of word association tending keyword formation would be known from this study. The allied subject domains also become predictable from this study.
In order to reduce the negative impact of the uncertainty of load and renewable energies outputs on microgrid operation, an optimal scheduling model is proposed for isolated microgrids by using automated reinforcement learning-based multi-period forecasting of renewable power generations and loads. Firstly, a prioritized experience replay automated reinforcement learning (PER-AutoRL) is designed to simplify the deployment of deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based forecasting model in a customized manner, the single-step multi-period forecasting method based on PER-AutoRL is proposed for the first time to address the error accumulation issue suffered by existing multi-step forecasting methods, then the prediction values obtained by the proposed forecasting method are revised via the error distribution to improve the prediction accuracy; secondly, a scheduling model considering demand response is constructed to minimize the total microgrid operating costs, where the revised forecasting values are used as the dispatch basis, and a spinning reserve chance constraint is set according to the error distribution; finally, by transforming the original scheduling model into a readily solvable mixed integer linear programming via the sequence operation theory (SOT), the transformed model is solved by using CPLEX solver. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional scheduling model without forecasting, this approach manages to significantly reduce the system operating costs by improving the prediction accuracy.
The use of wireless implanted medical devices (IMDs) is growing because they facilitate continuous monitoring of patients during normal activities, simplify medical procedures required for data retrieval and reduce the likelihood of infection associated with trailing wires. However, most of the state-of-the-art IMDs are passive and offline devices. One of the key obstacles to an active and online IMD is the infeasibility of real-time, high-quality video broadcast from the IMD. Such broadcast would help develop innovative devices such as a video-streaming capsule endoscopy (CE) pill with therapeutic intervention capabilities. State-of-the-art IMDs employ radio-frequency electromagnetic waves for information transmission. However, high attenuation of RF-EM waves in tissues and federal restrictions on the transmit power and operable bandwidth lead to fundamental performance constraints for IMDs employing RF links, and prevent achieving high data rates that could accomodate video broadcast. In this work, ultrasonic waves were used for video transmission and broadcast through biological tissues. The proposed proof-of-concept system was tested on a porcine intestine ex vivo and a rabbit in vivo. It was demonstrated that using a millimeter-sized, implanted biocompatible transducer operating at 1.1-1.2 MHz, it was possible to transmit endoscopic video with high resolution (1280 pixels by 720 pixels) through porcine intestine wrapped with bacon, and to broadcast standard definition (640 pixels by 480 pixels) video near real-time through rabbit abdomen in vivo. Fusing intra-operative 2D transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) image with pre-operative 3D magnetic resonance (MR) volume to guide prostate biopsy can significantly increase the yield. However, such a multimodal 2D/3D registration problem is a very challenging task. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end frame-to-volume registration network (FVR-Net), which can efficiently bridge the previous research gaps by aligning a 2D TRUS frame with a 3D TRUS volume without requiring hardware tracking. The proposed FVR-Net utilizes a dual-branch feature extraction module to extract the information from TRUS frame and volume to estimate transformation parameters. We also introduce a differentiable 2D slice sampling module which allows gradients backpropagating from an unsupervised image similarity loss for content correspondence learning. Our model shows superior efficiency for real-time interventional guidance with highly competitive registration accuracy.
In this paper we investigate a tightly coupled Lidar-Inertia Odometry and Mapping (LIOM) scheme, with the capability to incorporate multiple lidars with complementary field of view (FOV). In essence, we devise a time-synchronized scheme to combine extracted features from separate lidars into a single pointcloud, which is then used to construct a local map and compute the feature-map matching (FMM) coefficients. These coefficients, along with the IMU preinteration observations, are then used to construct a factor graph that will be optimized to produce an estimate of the sliding window trajectory. We also propose a key frame-based map management strategy to marginalize certain poses and pointclouds in the sliding window to grow a global map, which is used to assemble the local map in the later stage. The use of multiple lidars with complementary FOV and the global map ensures that our estimate has low drift and can sustain good localization in situations where single lidar use gives poor result, or even fails to work. Multi-thread computation implementations are also adopted to fractionally cut down the computation time and ensure real-time performance. We demonstrate the efficacy of our system via a series of experiments on public datasets collected from an aerial vehicle.
Sound event detection is an important facet of audio tagging that aims to identify sounds of interest and define both the sound category and time boundaries for each sound event in a continuous recording. With advances in deep neural networks, there has been tremendous improvement in the performance of sound event detection systems, although at the expense of costly data collection and labeling efforts. In fact, current state-of-the-art methods employ supervised training methods that leverage large amounts of data samples and corresponding labels in order to facilitate identification of sound category and time stamps of events. As an alternative, the current study proposes a semi-supervised method for generating pseudo-labels from unsupervised data using a student-teacher scheme that balances self-training and cross-training. Additionally, this paper explores post-processing which extracts sound intervals from network prediction, for further improvement in sound event detection performance. The proposed approach is evaluated on sound event detection task for the DCASE2020 challenge. The results of these methods on both "validation" and "public evaluation" sets of DESED database show significant improvement compared to the state-of-the art systems in semi-supervised learning.
