Conventional anti-jamming methods mainly focus on preventing single jammer attacks with an invariant jamming policy or jamming attacks from multiple jammers with similar jamming policies. These anti-jamming methods are ineffective against a single jammer following several different jamming policies or multiple jammers with distinct policies. Therefore, this paper proposes an anti-jamming method that can adapt its policy to the current jamming attack. Moreover, for the multiple jammers scenario, an anti-jamming method that estimates the future occupied channels using the jammers' occupied channels in previous time slots is proposed. In both single and multiple jammers scenarios, the interaction between the users and jammers is modeled using recurrent neural networks (RNN)s. The performance of the proposed anti-jamming methods is evaluated by calculating the users' successful transmission rate (STR) and ergodic rate (ER), and compared to a baseline based on Q-learning (DQL). Simulation results show that for the single jammer scenario, all the considered jamming policies are perfectly detected and high STR and ER are maintained. Moreover, when 70 % of the spectrum is under jamming attacks from multiple jammers, the proposed method achieves an STR and ER greater than 75 % and 80 %, respectively. These values rise to 90 % when 30 % of the spectrum is under jamming attacks. In addition, the proposed anti-jamming methods significantly outperform the DQL method for all the considered cases and jamming scenarios.
Many modern online 3D applications and videogames rely on parametric models of human faces for creating believable avatars. However, manual reproduction of someone's facial likeness with a parametric model is difficult and time-consuming. Machine Learning solution for that task is highly desirable but is also challenging. The paper proposes a novel approach to the so-called Face-to-Parameters problem (F2P for short), aiming to reconstruct a parametric face from a single image. The proposed method utilizes synthetic data, domain decomposition, and domain adaptation for addressing multifaceted challenges in solving the F2P. The open-sourced codebase illustrates our key observations and provides means for quantitative evaluation. The presented approach proves practical in an industrial application; it improves accuracy and allows for more efficient models training. The techniques have the potential to extend to other types of parametric models.
Pre-trained representation is one of the key elements in the success of modern deep learning. However, existing works on continual learning methods have mostly focused on learning models incrementally from scratch. In this paper, we explore an alternative framework to incremental learning where we continually fine-tune the model from a pre-trained representation. Our method takes advantage of linearization technique of a pre-trained neural network for simple and effective continual learning. We show that this allows us to design a linear model where quadratic parameter regularization method is placed as the optimal continual learning policy, and at the same time enjoying the high performance of neural networks. We also show that the proposed algorithm enables parameter regularization methods to be applied to class-incremental problems. Additionally, we provide a theoretical reason why the existing parameter-space regularization algorithms such as EWC underperform on neural networks trained with cross-entropy loss. We show that the proposed method can prevent forgetting while achieving high continual fine-tuning performance on image classification tasks. To show that our method can be applied to general continual learning settings, we evaluate our method in data-incremental, task-incremental, and class-incremental learning problems.
Focusing on Stable Roommates (SR) instances, we contribute to the toolbox for conducting experiments for stable matching problems. We introduce a polynomial-time computable pseudometric to measure the similarity of SR instances, analyze its properties, and use it to create a map of SR instances. This map visualizes 460 synthetic SR instances (each sampled from one of ten different statistical cultures) as follows: Each instance is a point in the plane, and two points are close on the map if the corresponding SR instances are similar to each other. Subsequently, we conduct several exemplary experiments and depict their results on the map, illustrating the map's usefulness as a non-aggregate visualization tool, the diversity of our generated dataset, and the need to use instances sampled from different statistical cultures. Lastly, to demonstrate that our framework can also be used for other matching problems under preference, we create and analyze a map of Stable Marriage instances.
Time series models with recurrent neural networks (RNNs) can have high accuracy but are unfortunately difficult to interpret as a result of feature-interactions, temporal-interactions, and non-linear transformations. Interpretability is important in domains like healthcare where constructing models that provide insight into the relationships they have learned are required to validate and trust model predictions. We want accurate time series models where users can understand the contribution of individual input features. We present the Interpretable-RNN (I-RNN) that balances model complexity and accuracy by forcing the relationship between variables in the model to be additive. Interactions are restricted between hidden states of the RNN and additively combined at the final step. I-RNN specifically captures the unique characteristics of clinical time series, which are unevenly sampled in time, asynchronously acquired, and have missing data. Importantly, the hidden state activations represent feature coefficients that correlate with the prediction target and can be visualized as risk curves that capture the global relationship between individual input features and the outcome. We evaluate the I-RNN model on the Physionet 2012 Challenge dataset to predict in-hospital mortality, and on a real-world clinical decision support task: predicting hemodynamic interventions in the intensive care unit. I-RNN provides explanations in the form of global and local feature importances comparable to highly intelligible models like decision trees trained on hand-engineered features while significantly outperforming them. I-RNN remains intelligible while providing accuracy comparable to state-of-the-art decay-based and interpolation-based recurrent time series models. The experimental results on real-world clinical datasets refute the myth that there is a tradeoff between accuracy and interpretability.
Nowadays, yoga has become a part of life for many people. Exercises and sports technological assistance is implemented in yoga pose identification. In this work, a self-assistance based yoga posture identification technique is developed, which helps users to perform Yoga with the correction feature in Real-time. The work also presents Yoga-hand mudra (hand gestures) identification. The YOGI dataset has been developed which include 10 Yoga postures with around 400-900 images of each pose and also contain 5 mudras for identification of mudras postures. It contains around 500 images of each mudra. The feature has been extracted by making a skeleton on the body for yoga poses and hand for mudra poses. Two different algorithms have been used for creating a skeleton one for yoga poses and the second for hand mudras. Angles of the joints have been extracted as a features for different machine learning and deep learning models. among all the models XGBoost with RandomSearch CV is most accurate and gives 99.2\% accuracy. The complete design framework is described in the present paper.
The centrality and diversity of the labeled data are very influential to the performance of semi-supervised learning (SSL), but most SSL models select the labeled data randomly. How to guarantee the centrality and diversity of the labeled data has so far received little research attention. Optimal leading forest (OLF) has been observed to have the advantage of revealing the difference evolution within a class when it was utilized to develop an SSL model. Our key intuition of this study is to learn a kernelized large margin metric for a small amount of most stable and most divergent data that are recognized based on the OLF structure. An optimization problem is formulated to achieve this goal. Also with OLF the multiple local metrics learning is facilitated to address multi-modal and mix-modal problem in SSL. Attribute to this novel design, the accuracy and performance stableness of the SSL model based on OLF is significantly improved compared with its baseline methods without sacrificing much efficiency. The experimental studies have shown that the proposed method achieved encouraging accuracy and running time when compared to the state-of-the-art graph SSL methods. Multiple mobile manipulators show superiority in the tasks requiring mobility and dexterity compared with a single robot, especially when manipulating/transporting bulky objects. When the object and the manipulators are rigidly connected, closed-chain will form and the motion of the whole system will be restricted onto a lower-dimensional manifold. However, current research on multi-robot motion planning did not fully consider the formation of the whole system, the redundancy of the mobile manipulator and obstacles in the environment, which make the tasks challenging. Therefore, this paper proposes a hierarchical framework to efficiently solve the above challenges, where the centralized layer plans the object's motion offline and the decentralized layer independently explores the redundancy of each robot in real-time. In addition, closed-chain, obstacle-avoidance and the lower bound of the formation constraints are guaranteed in the centralized layer, which cannot be achieved simultaneously by other planners. Moreover, capability map, which represents the distribution of the formation constraint, is applied to speed up the two layers. Both simulation and experimental results show that the proposed framework outperforms the benchmark planners significantly. The system could bypass or cross obstacles in cluttered environments, and the framework can be applied to different numbers of heterogeneous mobile manipulators.
Neurologists typically identify epileptic seizures from electroencephalograms (EEGs) by visual inspection. This process is often time-consuming. To expedite the process, a reliable, automated, and patient-independent seizure detector is essential. However, developing such seizure detector is challenging as seizures exhibit diverse morphologies across different patients. In this study, we propose a patient-independent seizure detector to automatically detect seizures in both scalp EEG (sEEG) and intracranial EEG (iEEG). First, we deploy a convolutional neural network (CNN) with transformers (TRF) and belief matching (BM) loss to detect seizures in single-channel EEG segments. Next, we extract regional features from the channel-level outputs to detect seizures in multi-channel EEG segments. At last, we apply postprocessing filters to the segment-level outputs to determine the start and end points of seizures in multi-channel EEGs. We introduce the minimum overlap evaluation scoring (MOES) as an evaluation metric that accounts for minimum overlap between the detection and seizure, improving upon existing metrics. We trained the seizure detector on the Temple University Hospital Seizure sEEG dataset and evaluated it on five other independent sEEG and iEEG datasets. On the TUH-SZ dataset, the proposed patient-independent seizure detector achieves a sensitivity (SEN), precision (PRE), average and median false positive rate per hour (aFPR/h and mFPR/h), and median offset of 0.772, 0.429, 4.425, 0, and -2.125s, respectively. Across all six datasets, we obtained SEN of 0.227-1.00, PRE of 0.377-1.00, aFPR/h of 0.253-2.037 and mFPR/h of 0-0.559. The proposed seizure detector can reliably detect seizures in EEGs and takes less than 15s for a 30 minutes EEG. Hence, this system could aid the clinicians in reliably identifying seizures expeditiously, allocating more time for devising proper treatment.
Complete surgical resection of the tumor for Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains challenging, given the devastating side effects of aggressive surgery and the anatomic proximity to vital structures. To address the clinical challenges, we introduce a wide-field, label-free imaging tool that can assist surgeons delineate tumor margins real-time. We assume that autofluorescence lifetime is a natural indicator of the health level of tissues, and ratio-metric measurement of the emission-decay state to the emission-peak state of excited fluorophores will enable rapid lifetime mapping of tissues. Here, we describe the principle, instrumentation, characterization of the imager and the intraoperative imaging of resected tissues from 13 patients undergoing head and neck cancer resection. 20 x 20 mm2 imaging takes 2 second/frame with a working distance of 50 mm, and characterization shows that the spatial resolution reached 70 {\mu}m and the least distinguishable fluorescence lifetime difference is 0.14 ns. Tissue imaging and Hematoxylin-Eosin stain slides comparison reveals its capability of delineating cancerous boundaries with submillimeter accuracy and a sensitivity of 91.86% and specificity of 84.38%.
