Our focus is on projects, i.e., business processes, which are emerging as the economic drivers of our times. Differently from day-to-day operational processes that do not require detailed planning, a project requires planning and resource-constrained scheduling for coordinating resources across sub- or related projects and organizations. A planner in charge of project planning has to select a set of activities to perform, determine their precedence constraints, and schedule them according to temporal project constraints. We suggest a data-driven project planning approach for classes of projects such as infrastructure building and information systems development projects. A project network is first learned from historical records. The discovered network relaxes temporal constraints embedded in individual projects, thus uncovering where planning and scheduling flexibility can be exploited for greater benefit. Then, the network, which contains multiple project plan variations, from which one has to be selected, is enriched by identifying decision rules and frequent paths. The planner can rely on the project network for: 1) decoding a project variation such that it forms a new project plan, and 2) applying resource-constrained project scheduling procedures to determine the project's schedule and resource allocation. Using two real-world project datasets, we show that the suggested approach may provide the planner with significant flexibility (up to a 26% reduction of the critical path of a real project) to adjust the project plan and schedule. We believe that the proposed approach can play an important part in supporting decision making towards automated data-driven project planning.
In general, robotic dexterous hands are equipped with various sensors for acquiring multimodal contact information such as position, force, and pose of the grasped object. This multi-sensor-based design adds complexity to the robotic system. In contrast, vision-based tactile sensors employ specialized optical designs to enable the extraction of tactile information across different modalities within a single system. Nonetheless, the decoupling design for different modalities in common systems is often independent. Therefore, as the dimensionality of tactile modalities increases, it poses more complex challenges in data processing and decoupling, thereby limiting its application to some extent. Here, we developed a multimodal sensing system based on a vision-based tactile sensor, which utilizes visual representations of tactile information to perceive the multimodal contact information of the grasped object. The visual representations contain extensive content that can be decoupled by a deep neural network to obtain multimodal contact information such as classification, position, posture, and force of the grasped object. The results show that the tactile sensing system can perceive multimodal tactile information using only one single sensor and without different data decoupling designs for different modal tactile information, which reduces the complexity of the tactile system and demonstrates the potential for multimodal tactile integration in various fields such as biomedicine, biology, and robotics.
Causal disentanglement has great potential for capturing complex situations. However, there is a lack of practical and efficient approaches. It is already known that most unsupervised disentangling methods are unable to produce identifiable results without additional information, often leading to randomly disentangled output. Therefore, most existing models for disentangling are weakly supervised, providing information about intrinsic factors, which incurs excessive costs. Therefore, we propose a novel model, SCADI(SElf-supervised CAusal DIsentanglement), that enables the model to discover semantic factors and learn their causal relationships without any supervision. This model combines a masked structural causal model (SCM) with a pseudo-label generator for causal disentanglement, aiming to provide a new direction for self-supervised causal disentanglement models.
We are investigating the broader concept of using AI-based generative music systems to generate training data for Music Information Retrieval (MIR) tasks. To kick off this line of work, we ran an initial experiment in which we trained a genre classifier on a fully artificial music dataset created with MusicGen. We constructed over 50 000 genre- conditioned textual descriptions and generated a collection of music excerpts that covers five musical genres. Our preliminary results show that the proposed model can learn genre-specific characteristics from artificial music tracks that generalise well to real-world music recordings.
In this position paper, we propose a way of exploiting formal proofs to put forward several explainable natural language inference (NLI) tasks. The formal proofs will be produced by a reliable and high-performing logic-based NLI system. Taking advantage of the in-depth information available in the generated formal proofs, we show how it can be used to define NLI tasks with structured explanations. The proposed tasks can be ordered according to difficulty defined in terms of the granularity of explanations. We argue that the tasks will suffer with substantially fewer shortcomings than the existing explainable NLI tasks (or datasets).
Spearheaded by retail traders on the website reddit, the GameStop short squeeze of early 2021 shows that social media embeds information that correlates with market movements. This paper seeks to examine this relationship by using daily frequencies of classified comments and buzzwords as additional factors in a Fama-French three factor model. Comments are classified using an unsupervised clustering method, while past studies have used pretrained models that are not specific to the domains being studied.
According to the literature, Product reviews are an important source of information for customers to support their buying decision. Product reviews improve customer trust and loyalty. Reviews help customers in understanding what other customers think about a particular product and helps in driving purchase decisions. Therefore, for an e-commerce platform it is important to understand the sentiments in customer reviews to understand their products and services, and it also allows them to potentially create positive consumer interaction as well as long lasting relationships. Reviews also provide innovative ways to market the products for an ecommerce company. One such approach is Nudge Marketing. Nudge marketing is a subtle way for an ecommerce company to help their customers make better decisions without hesitation.
Uncertainty quantification of deep neural networks has become an active field of research and plays a crucial role in various downstream tasks such as active learning. Recent advances in evidential deep learning shed light on the direct quantification of aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties with a single forward pass of the model. Most traditional approaches adopt an entropy-based method to derive evidential uncertainty in classification, quantifying uncertainty at the sample level. However, the variance-based method that has been widely applied in regression problems is seldom used in the classification setting. In this work, we adapt the variance-based approach from regression to classification, quantifying classification uncertainty at the class level. The variance decomposition technique in regression is extended to class covariance decomposition in classification based on the law of total covariance, and the class correlation is also derived from the covariance. Experiments on cross-domain datasets are conducted to illustrate that the variance-based approach not only results in similar accuracy as the entropy-based one in active domain adaptation but also brings information about class-wise uncertainties as well as between-class correlations. This alternative means of evidential uncertainty quantification will give researchers more options when class uncertainties and correlations are important in their applications.
This paper presents an open-source dataset RflyMAD, a Multicopter Abnomal Dataset developed by Reliable Flight Control (Rfly) Group aiming to promote the development of research fields like fault detection and isolation (FDI) or health assessment (HA). The entire 114 GB dataset includes 11 types of faults under 6 flight statuses which are adapted from ADS-33 file to cover more occasions in which the multicopters have different mobility levels when faults occur. In the total 5629 flight cases, the fault time is up to 3283 minutes, and there are 2566 cases for software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation, 2566 cases for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation and 497 cases for real flight. As it contains simulation data based on RflySim and real flight data, it is possible to improve the quantity while increasing the data quality. In each case, there are ULog, Telemetry log, Flight information and processed files for researchers to use and check. The RflyMAD dataset could be used as a benchmark for fault diagnosis methods and the support relationship between simulation data and real flight is verified through transfer learning methods. More methods as a baseline will be presented in the future, and RflyMAD will be updated with more data and types. Recommending suitable items to a group of users, commonly referred to as the group recommendation task, is becoming increasingly urgent with the development of group activities. The challenges within the group recommendation task involve aggregating the individual preferences of group members as the group's preferences and facing serious sparsity problems due to the lack of user/group-item interactions. To solve these problems, we propose a novel approach called Dependency Relationships-Enhanced Attentive Group Recommendation (DREAGR) for the recommendation task of occasional groups. Specifically, we introduce the dependency relationship between items as side information to enhance the user/group-item interaction and alleviate the interaction sparsity problem. Then, we propose a Path-Aware Attention Embedding (PAAE) method to model users' preferences on different types of paths. Next, we design a gated fusion mechanism to fuse users' preferences into their comprehensive preferences. Finally, we develop an attention aggregator that aggregates users' preferences as the group's preferences for the group recommendation task. We conducted experiments on two datasets to demonstrate the superiority of DREAGR by comparing it with state-of-the-art group recommender models. The experimental results show that DREAGR outperforms other models, especially HR@N and NDCG@N (N=5, 10), where DREAGR has improved in the range of 3.64% to 7.01% and 2.57% to 3.39% on both datasets, respectively.
