Feature Selection using the concept of Peafowl Mating in IDS

Cloud computing has high applicability as an Internet based service that relies on sharing computing resources. Cloud computing provides services that are Infrastructure based, Platform based and Software based. The popularity of this technology is due to its superb performance, high level of computing ability, low cost of services, scalability, availability and flexibility. The obtainability and openness of data in cloud environment make it vulnerable to the world of cyber-attacks. To detect the attacks Intrusion Detection System is used, that can identify the attacks and ensure information security. Such a coherent and proficient Intrusion Detection System is proposed in this paper to achieve higher certainty levels regarding safety in cloud environment. In this paper, the mating behavior of peafowl is incorporated into an optimization algorithm which in turn is used as a feature selection algorithm. The algorithm is used to reduce the huge size of cloud data so that the IDS can work efficiently on the cloud to detect intrusions. The proposed model has been experimented with NSL-KDD dataset as well as Kyoto dataset and have proved to be a better as well as an efficient IDS.

Cross-lingual Editing in Multilingual Language Models

The training of large language models (LLMs) necessitates substantial data and computational resources, and updating outdated LLMs entails significant efforts and resources. While numerous model editing techniques (METs) have emerged to efficiently update model outputs without retraining, their effectiveness in multilingual LLMs, where knowledge is stored in diverse languages, remains an underexplored research area. This research paper introduces the cross-lingual model editing (\textbf{XME}) paradigm, wherein a fact is edited in one language, and the subsequent update propagation is observed across other languages. To investigate the XME paradigm, we conducted experiments using BLOOM, mBERT, and XLM-RoBERTa using the two writing scripts: \textit{Latin} (English, French, and Spanish) and \textit{Indic} (Hindi, Gujarati, and Bengali). The results reveal notable performance limitations of state-of-the-art METs under the XME setting, mainly when the languages involved belong to two distinct script families. These findings highlight the need for further research and development of XME techniques to address these challenges. CORE: Mitigating Catastrophic Forgetting in Continual Learning through Cognitive Replay

This paper introduces a novel perspective to significantly mitigate catastrophic forgetting in continuous learning (CL), which emphasizes models' capacity to preserve existing knowledge and assimilate new information. Current replay-based methods treat every task and data sample equally and thus can not fully exploit the potential of the replay buffer. In response, we propose COgnitive REplay (CORE), which draws inspiration from human cognitive review processes. CORE includes two key strategies: Adaptive Quantity Allocation and Quality-Focused Data Selection. The former adaptively modulates the replay buffer allocation for each task based on its forgetting rate, while the latter guarantees the inclusion of representative data that best encapsulates the characteristics of each task within the buffer. Our approach achieves an average accuracy of 37.95% on split-CIFAR10, surpassing the best baseline method by 6.52%. Additionally, it significantly enhances the accuracy of the poorest-performing task by 6.30% compared to the top baseline.

Sandra -- A Neuro-Symbolic Reasoner Based On Descriptions And Situations

This paper presents sandra, a neuro-symbolic reasoner combining vectorial representations with deductive reasoning. Sandra builds a vector space constrained by an ontology and performs reasoning over it. The geometric nature of the reasoner allows its combination with neural networks, bridging the gap with symbolic knowledge representations. Sandra is based on the Description and Situation (DnS) ontology design pattern, a formalization of frame semantics. Given a set of facts (a situation) it allows to infer all possible perspectives (descriptions) that can provide a plausible interpretation for it, even in presence of incomplete information. We prove that our method is correct with respect to the DnS model. We experiment with two different tasks and their standard benchmarks, demonstrating that, without increasing complexity, sandra (i) outperforms all the baselines (ii) provides interpretability in the classification process, and (iii) allows control over the vector space, which is designed a priori.

STAGE: Scalable and Traversability-Aware Graph based Exploration Planner for Dynamically Varying Environments

In this article, we propose a novel navigation framework that leverages a two layered graph representation of the environment for efficient large-scale exploration, while it integrates a novel uncertainty awareness scheme to handle dynamic scene changes in previously explored areas. The framework is structured around a novel goal oriented graph representation, that consists of, i) the local sub-graph and ii) the global graph layer respectively. The local sub-graphs encode local volumetric gain locations as frontiers, based on the direct pointcloud visibility, allowing fast graph building and path planning. Additionally, the global graph is build in an efficient way, using node-edge information exchange only on overlapping regions of sequential sub-graphs. Different from the state-of-the-art graph based exploration methods, the proposed approach efficiently re-uses sub-graphs built in previous iterations to construct the global navigation layer. Another merit of the proposed scheme is the ability to handle scene changes (e.g. blocked pathways), adaptively updating the obstructed part of the global graph from traversable to not-traversable. This operation involved oriented sample space of a path segment in the global graph layer, while removing the respective edges from connected nodes of the global graph in cases of obstructions. As such, the exploration behavior is directing the robot to follow another route in the global re-positioning phase through path-way updates in the global graph. Finally, we showcase the performance of the method both in simulation runs as well as deployed in real-world scene involving a legged robot carrying camera and lidar sensor.

Modeling of learning curves with applications to pos tagging

An algorithm to estimate the evolution of learning curves on the whole of a training data base, based on the results obtained from a portion and using a functional strategy, is introduced. We approximate iteratively the sought value at the desired time, independently of the learning technique used and once a point in the process, called prediction level, has been passed. The proposal proves to be formally correct with respect to our working hypotheses and includes a reliable proximity condition. This allows the user to fix a convergence threshold with respect to the accuracy finally achievable, which extends the concept of stopping criterion and seems to be effective even in the presence of distorting observations. Our aim is to evaluate the training effort, supporting decision making in order to reduce the need for both human and computational resources during the learning process. The proposal is of interest in at least three operational procedures. The first is the anticipation of accuracy gain, with the purpose of measuring how much work is needed to achieve a certain degree of performance. The second relates the comparison of efficiency between systems at training time, with the objective of completing this task only for the one that best suits our requirements. The prediction of accuracy is also a valuable item of information for customizing systems, since we can estimate in advance the impact of settings on both the performance and the development costs. Using the generation of part-of-speech taggers as an example application, the experimental results are consistent with our expectations.

Solution-oriented Agent-based Models Generation with Verifier-assisted Iterative In-context Learning

Agent-based models (ABMs) stand as an essential paradigm for proposing and validating hypothetical solutions or policies aimed at addressing challenges posed by complex systems and achieving various objectives. This process demands labor-intensive endeavors and multidisciplinary expertise. Large language models (LLMs) encapsulating cross-domain knowledge and programming proficiency could potentially alleviate the difficulty of this process. However, LLMs excel in handling sequential information, making it challenging for analyzing the intricate interactions and nonlinear dynamics inherent in ABMs. Additionally, due to the lack of self-evaluation capability of LLMs, relying solely on LLMs is insufficient to effectively accomplish this process. In this paper, we present SAGE, a general solution-oriented ABM generation framework designed for automatic modeling and generating solutions for targeted problems. Unlike approaches reliant on expert handcrafting or resource-intensive neural network training, SAGE establishes a verifier-assisted iterative in-context learning process employing large language models (LLMs) to leverages their inherent cross-domain knowledge for tackling intricate demands from diverse domain scenarios. In SAGE, we introduce an semi-structured conceptual representation expliciting the intricate structures of ABMs and an objective representation to guide LLMs in modeling scenarios and proposing hypothetical solutions through in-context learning. To ensure the model executability and solution feasibility, SAGE devises a two-level verifier with chain-of-thought prompting tailored to the complex interactions and non-linear dynamics of ABMs, driving the iterative generation optimization. Moreover, we construct an evaluation dataset of solution-oriented ABMs from open sources.It contains practical models across various domains.

Multilayer Graph Approach to Deep Subspace Clustering

Deep subspace clustering (DSC) networks based on self-expressive model learn representation matrix, often implemented in terms of fully connected network, in the embedded space. After the learning is finished, representation matrix is used by spectral clustering module to assign labels to clusters. However, such approach ignores complementary information that exist in other layers of the encoder (including the input data themselves). Herein, we apply selected linear subspace clustering algorithm to learn representation matrices from representations learned by all layers of encoder network including the input data. Afterward, we learn a multilayer graph that in a multi-view like manner integrates information from graph Laplacians of all used layers. That improves further performance of selected DSC network. Furthermore, we also provide formulation of our approach to cluster out-of-sample/test data points. We validate proposed approach on four well-known datasets with two DSC networks as baseline models. In almost all the cases, proposed approach achieved statistically significant improvement in three performance metrics. Fourier Prompt Tuning for Modality-Incomplete Scene Segmentation

Integrating information from multiple modalities enhances the robustness of scene perception systems in autonomous vehicles, providing a more comprehensive and reliable sensory framework. However, the modality incompleteness in multi-modal segmentation remains under-explored. In this work, we establish a task called Modality-Incomplete Scene Segmentation (MISS), which encompasses both system-level modality absence and sensor-level modality errors. To avoid the predominant modality reliance in multi-modal fusion, we introduce a Missing-aware Modal Switch (MMS) strategy to proactively manage missing modalities during training. Utilizing bit-level batch-wise sampling enhances the model's performance in both complete and incomplete testing scenarios. Furthermore, we introduce the Fourier Prompt Tuning (FPT) method to incorporate representative spectral information into a limited number of learnable prompts that maintain robustness against all MISS scenarios. Akin to fine-tuning effects but with fewer tunable parameters (1.1%). Extensive experiments prove the efficacy of our proposed approach, showcasing an improvement of 5.84% mIoU over the prior state-of-the-art parameter-efficient methods in modality missing. Instant Answering in E-Commerce Buyer-Seller Messaging using Message-to-Question Reformulation

E-commerce customers frequently seek detailed product information for purchase decisions, commonly contacting sellers directly with extended queries. This manual response requirement imposes additional costs and disrupts buyer's shopping experience with response time fluctuations ranging from hours to days. We seek to automate buyer inquiries to sellers in a leading e-commerce store using a domain-specific federated Question Answering (QA) system. The main challenge is adapting current QA systems, designed for single questions, to address detailed customer queries. We address this with a low-latency, sequence-to-sequence approach, MESSAGE-TO-QUESTION ( M2Q ). It reformulates buyer messages into succinct questions by identifying and extracting the most salient information from a message. Evaluation against baselines shows that M2Q yields relative increases of 757% in question understanding, and 1,746% in answering rate from the federated QA system. Live deployment shows that automatic answering saves sellers from manually responding to millions of messages per year, and also accelerates customer purchase decisions by eliminating the need for buyers to wait for a reply
