Analog and mixed-signal (AMS) circuit designs still rely on human design expertise. Machine learning has been assisting circuit design automation by replacing human experience with artificial intelligence. This paper presents TAG, a new paradigm of learning the circuit representation from layouts leveraging text, self-attention and graph. The embedding network model learns spatial information without manual labeling. We introduce text embedding and a self-attention mechanism to AMS circuit learning. Experimental results demonstrate the ability to predict layout distances between instances with industrial FinFET technology benchmarks. The effectiveness of the circuit representation is verified by showing the transferability to three other learning tasks with limited data in the case studies: layout matching prediction, wirelength estimation, and net parasitic capacitance prediction.
A novel framework is proposed to incrementally collect landmark-based graph memory and use the collected memory for image goal navigation. Given a target image to search, an embodied robot utilizes semantic memory to find the target in an unknown environment. % The semantic graph memory is collected from a panoramic observation of an RGB-D camera without knowing the robot's pose. In this paper, we present a topological semantic graph memory (TSGM), which consists of (1) a graph builder that takes the observed RGB-D image to construct a topological semantic graph, (2) a cross graph mixer module that takes the collected nodes to get contextual information, and (3) a memory decoder that takes the contextual memory as an input to find an action to the target. On the task of image goal navigation, TSGM significantly outperforms competitive baselines by +5.0-9.0% on the success rate and +7.0-23.5% on SPL, which means that the TSGM finds efficient paths. Additionally, we demonstrate our method on a mobile robot in real-world image goal scenarios.
Unlike 2D object detection where all RoI features come from grid pixels, the RoI feature extraction of 3D point cloud object detection is more diverse. In this paper, we first compare and analyze the differences in structure and performance between the two state-of-the-art models PV-RCNN and Voxel-RCNN. Then, we find that the performance gap between the two models does not come from point information, but structural information. The voxel features contain more structural information because they do quantization instead of downsampling to point cloud so that they can contain basically the complete information of the whole point cloud. The stronger structural information in voxel features makes the detector have higher performance in our experiments even if the voxel features don't have accurate location information. Then, we propose that structural information is the key to 3D object detection. Based on the above conclusion, we propose a Self-Attention RoI Feature Extractor (SARFE) to enhance structural information of the feature extracted from 3D proposals. SARFE is a plug-and-play module that can be easily used on existing 3D detectors. Our SARFE is evaluated on both KITTI dataset and Waymo Open dataset. With the newly introduced SARFE, we improve the performance of the state-of-the-art 3D detectors by a large margin in cyclist on KITTI dataset while keeping real-time capability.
Decentralized learning algorithms enable the training of deep learning models over large distributed datasets generated at different devices and locations, without the need for a central server. In practical scenarios, the distributed datasets can have significantly different data distributions across the agents. The current state-of-the-art decentralized algorithms mostly assume the data distributions to be Independent and Identically Distributed (IID). This paper focuses on improving decentralized learning over non-IID data distributions with minimal compute and memory overheads. We propose Neighborhood Gradient Clustering (NGC), a novel decentralized learning algorithm that modifies the local gradients of each agent using self- and cross-gradient information. In particular, the proposed method replaces the local gradients of the model with the weighted mean of the self-gradients, model-variant cross-gradients (derivatives of the received neighbors' model parameters with respect to the local dataset), and data-variant cross-gradients (derivatives of the local model with respect to its neighbors' datasets). Further, we present CompNGC, a compressed version of NGC that reduces the communication overhead by $32 \times$ by compressing the cross-gradients. We demonstrate the empirical convergence and efficiency of the proposed technique over non-IID data distributions sampled from the CIFAR-10 dataset on various model architectures and graph topologies. Our experiments demonstrate that NGC and CompNGC outperform the existing state-of-the-art (SoTA) decentralized learning algorithm over non-IID data by $1-5\%$ with significantly less compute and memory requirements. Further, we also show that the proposed NGC method outperforms the baseline by $5-40\%$ with no additional communication.
Transformer-based models, capable of learning better global dependencies, have recently demonstrated exceptional representation learning capabilities in computer vision and medical image analysis. Transformer reformats the image into separate patches and realize global communication via the self-attention mechanism. However, positional information between patches is hard to preserve in such 1D sequences, and loss of it can lead to sub-optimal performance when dealing with large amounts of heterogeneous tissues of various sizes in 3D medical image segmentation. Additionally, current methods are not robust and efficient for heavy-duty medical segmentation tasks such as predicting a large number of tissue classes or modeling globally inter-connected tissues structures. Inspired by the nested hierarchical structures in vision transformer, we proposed a novel 3D medical image segmentation method (UNesT), employing a simplified and faster-converging transformer encoder design that achieves local communication among spatially adjacent patch sequences by aggregating them hierarchically. We extensively validate our method on multiple challenging datasets, consisting anatomies of 133 structures in brain, 14 organs in abdomen, 4 hierarchical components in kidney, and inter-connected kidney tumors). We show that UNesT consistently achieves state-of-the-art performance and evaluate its generalizability and data efficiency. Particularly, the model achieves whole brain segmentation task complete ROI with 133 tissue classes in single network, outperforms prior state-of-the-art method SLANT27 ensembled with 27 network tiles, our model performance increases the mean DSC score of the publicly available Colin and CANDI dataset from 0.7264 to 0.7444 and from 0.6968 to 0.7025, respectively.
Aerial robots such as drones have been leveraged to perform bridge inspections. Inspection images with both recognizable structural elements and apparent surface defects can be collected by onboard cameras to provide valuable information for the condition assessment. This article aims to determine a suitable deep neural network (DNN) for parsing multiclass bridge elements in inspection images. An extensive set of quantitative evaluations along with qualitative examples show that High-Resolution Net (HRNet) possesses the desired ability. With data augmentation and a training sample of 130 images, a pre-trained HRNet is efficiently transferred to the task of structural element parsing and has achieved a 92.67% mean F1-score and 86.33% mean IoU.
This article aims to provide a unified and technical approach to semantic information, communication, and their interplay through the lens of probabilistic logic. To this end, on top of the existing technical communication (TC) layer, we additionally introduce a semantic communication (SC) layer that exchanges logically meaningful clauses in knowledge bases. To make these SC and TC layers interact, we propose various measures based on the entropy of a clause in a knowledge base. These measures allow us to delineate various technical issues on SC such as a message selection problem for improving the knowledge at a receiver. Extending this, we showcase selected examples in which SC and TC layers interact with each other while taking into account constraints on physical channels.
Predicting the future behavior of road users is one of the most challenging and important problems in autonomous driving. Applying deep learning to this problem requires fusing heterogeneous world state in the form of rich perception signals and map information, and inferring highly multi-modal distributions over possible futures. In this paper, we present MultiPath++, a future prediction model that achieves state-of-the-art performance on popular benchmarks. MultiPath++ improves the MultiPath architecture by revisiting many design choices. The first key design difference is a departure from dense image-based encoding of the input world state in favor of a sparse encoding of heterogeneous scene elements: MultiPath++ consumes compact and efficient polylines to describe road features, and raw agent state information directly (e.g., position, velocity, acceleration). We propose a context-aware fusion of these elements and develop a reusable multi-context gating fusion component. Second, we reconsider the choice of pre-defined, static anchors, and develop a way to learn latent anchor embeddings end-to-end in the model. Lastly, we explore ensembling and output aggregation techniques -- common in other ML domains -- and find effective variants for our probabilistic multimodal output representation. We perform an extensive ablation on these design choices, and show that our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance on the Argoverse Motion Forecasting Competition and the Waymo Open Dataset Motion Prediction Challenge.
We propose a novel method for unsupervised semantic image segmentation based on mutual information maximization between local and global high-level image features. The core idea of our work is to leverage recent progress in self-supervised image representation learning. Representation learning methods compute a single high-level feature capturing an entire image. In contrast, we compute multiple high-level features, each capturing image segments of one particular semantic class. To this end, we propose a novel two-step learning procedure comprising a segmentation and a mutual information maximization step. In the first step, we segment images based on local and global features. In the second step, we maximize the mutual information between local features and high-level features of their respective class. For training, we provide solely unlabeled images and start from random network initialization. For quantitative and qualitative evaluation, we use established benchmarks, and COCO-Persons, whereby we introduce the latter in this paper as a challenging novel benchmark. InfoSeg significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art, e.g., we achieve a relative increase of 26% in the Pixel Accuracy metric on the COCO-Stuff dataset.
Recent 3D face reconstruction methods reconstruct the entire head compared to earlier approaches which only model the face. Although these methods accurately reconstruct facial features, they do not explicitly regulate the upper part of the head. Extracting information about this part of the head is challenging due to varying degrees of occlusion by hair. We present a novel approach for modeling the upper head by removing occluding hair and reconstructing the skin, revealing information about the head shape. We introduce three objectives: 1) a dice consistency loss that enforces similarity between the overall head shape of the source and rendered image, 2) a scale consistency loss to ensure that head shape is accurately reproduced even if the upper part of the head is not visible, and 3) a 71 landmark detector trained using a moving average loss function to detect additional landmarks on the head. These objectives are used to train an encoder in an unsupervised manner to regress FLAME parameters from in-the-wild input images. Our unsupervised 3DMM model achieves state-of-the-art results on popular benchmarks and can be used to infer the head shape, facial features, and textures for direct use in animation or avatar creation.
