Despite substantial advances, single-image super-resolution (SISR) is always in a dilemma to reconstruct high-quality images with limited information from one input image, especially in realistic scenarios. In this paper, we establish a large-scale real-world burst super-resolution dataset, i.e., RealBSR, to explore the faithful reconstruction of image details from multiple frames. Furthermore, we introduce a Federated Burst Affinity network (FBAnet) to investigate non-trivial pixel-wise displacements among images under real-world image degradation. Specifically, rather than using pixel-wise alignment, our FBAnet employs a simple homography alignment from a structural geometry aspect and a Federated Affinity Fusion (FAF) strategy to aggregate the complementary information among frames. Those fused informative representations are fed to a Transformer-based module of burst representation decoding. Besides, we have conducted extensive experiments on two versions of our datasets, i.e., RealBSR-RAW and RealBSR-RGB. Experimental results demonstrate that our FBAnet outperforms existing state-of-the-art burst SR methods and also achieves visually-pleasant SR image predictions with model details. Enhancing speech signal quality in adverse acoustic environments is a persistent challenge in speech processing. Existing deep learning based enhancement methods often struggle to effectively remove background noise and reverberation in real-world scenarios, hampering listening experiences. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach that uses pre-trained generative methods to resynthesize clean, anechoic speech from degraded inputs. This study leverages pre-trained vocoder or codec models to synthesize high-quality speech while enhancing robustness in challenging scenarios. Generative methods effectively handle information loss in speech signals, resulting in regenerated speech that has improved fidelity and reduced artifacts. By harnessing the capabilities of pre-trained models, we achieve faithful reproduction of the original speech in adverse conditions. Experimental evaluations on both simulated datasets and realistic samples demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed methods. Especially by leveraging codec, we achieve superior subjective scores for both simulated and realistic recordings. The generated speech exhibits enhanced audio quality, reduced background noise, and reverberation. Our findings highlight the potential of pre-trained generative techniques in speech processing, particularly in scenarios where traditional methods falter. Recently, the development of large language models (LLMs) has been significantly enhanced the question answering and dialogue generation, and makes them become increasingly popular in current practical scenarios. While unlike the general dialogue system which emphasizes the semantic performance, the task-oriented dialogue (ToD) systems aim to achieve the dialogue goal efficiently and successfully in multiple turns. Unfortunately, existing LLM-induced ToD systems lack the direct reward toward the final goal and do not take account of the dialogue proactivity that can strengthen the dialogue efficiency. To fill these gaps, we introduce the ProToD (Proactively Goal-Driven LLM-Induced ToD) approach, which anticipates the future dialogue actions and incorporates the goal-oriented reward signal to enhance ToD systems. Additionally, we present a novel evaluation method that assesses ToD systems based on goal-driven dialogue simulations. This method allows us to gauge user satisfaction, system efficiency and successful rate while overcoming the limitations of current Information and Success metrics. Empirical experiments conducted on the MultiWoZ 2.1 dataset demonstrate that our model can achieve superior performance using only 10% of the data compared to previous end-to-end fully supervised models. This improvement is accompanied by enhanced user satisfaction and efficiency.
Supervised trackers trained on labeled data dominate the single object tracking field for superior tracking accuracy. The labeling cost and the huge computational complexity hinder their applications on edge devices. Unsupervised learning methods have also been investigated to reduce the labeling cost but their complexity remains high. Aiming at lightweight high-performance tracking, feasibility without offline pre-training, and algorithmic transparency, we propose a new single object tracking method, called the green object tracker (GOT), in this work. GOT conducts an ensemble of three prediction branches for robust box tracking: 1) a global object-based correlator to predict the object location roughly, 2) a local patch-based correlator to build temporal correlations of small spatial units, and 3) a superpixel-based segmentator to exploit the spatial information of the target frame. GOT offers competitive tracking accuracy with state-of-the-art unsupervised trackers, which demand heavy offline pre-training, at a lower computation cost. GOT has a tiny model size (<3k parameters) and low inference complexity (around 58M FLOPs per frame). Since its inference complexity is between 0.1%-10% of DL trackers, it can be easily deployed on mobile and edge devices.
We propose a first step toward multilingual end-to-end automatic speech recognition (ASR) by integrating knowledge about speech articulators. The key idea is to leverage a rich set of fundamental units that can be defined "universally" across all spoken languages, referred to as speech attributes, namely manner and place of articulation. Specifically, several deterministic attribute-to-phoneme mapping matrices are constructed based on the predefined set of universal attribute inventory, which projects the knowledge-rich articulatory attribute logits, into output phoneme logits. The mapping puts knowledge-based constraints to limit inconsistency with acoustic-phonetic evidence in the integrated prediction. Combined with phoneme recognition, our phone recognizer is able to infer from both attribute and phoneme information. The proposed joint multilingual model is evaluated through phoneme recognition. In multilingual experiments over 6 languages on benchmark datasets LibriSpeech and CommonVoice, we find that our proposed solution outperforms conventional multilingual approaches with a relative improvement of 6.85% on average, and it also demonstrates a much better performance compared to monolingual model. Further analysis conclusively demonstrates that the proposed solution eliminates phoneme predictions that are inconsistent with attributes.
We consider the problem of identifying the signal shared between two one-dimensional target variables, in the presence of additional multivariate observations. Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA)-based methods have traditionally been used to identify shared variables, however, they were designed for multivariate targets and only offer trivial solutions for univariate cases. In the context of Multi-Task Learning (MTL), various models were postulated to learn features that are sparse and shared across multiple tasks. However, these methods were typically evaluated by their predictive performance. To the best of our knowledge, no prior studies systematically evaluated models in terms of correctly recovering the shared signal. Here, we formalize the setting of univariate shared information retrieval, and propose ICM, an evaluation metric which can be used in the presence of ground-truth labels, quantifying 3 aspects of the learned shared features. We further propose Deep Canonical Information Decomposition (DCID) - a simple, yet effective approach for learning the shared variables. We benchmark the models on a range of scenarios on synthetic data with known ground-truths and observe DCID outperforming the baselines in a wide range of settings. Finally, we demonstrate a real-life application of DCID on brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data, where we are able to extract more accurate predictors of changes in brain regions and obesity. Knowledge graph (KG) embedding has been used to benefit the diagnosis of animal diseases by analyzing electronic medical records (EMRs), such as notes and veterinary records. However, learning representations to capture entities and relations with literal information in KGs is challenging as the KGs show heterogeneous properties and various types of literal information. Meanwhile, the existing methods mostly aim to preserve graph structures surrounding target nodes without considering different types of literals, which could also carry significant information. In this paper, we propose a knowledge graph embedding model for the efficient diagnosis of animal diseases, which could learn various types of literal information and graph structure and fuse them into unified representations, namely LiteralKG. Specifically, we construct a knowledge graph that is built from EMRs along with literal information collected from various animal hospitals. We then fuse different types of entities and node feature information into unified vector representations through gate networks. Finally, we propose a self-supervised learning task to learn graph structure in pretext tasks and then towards various downstream tasks. Experimental results on link prediction tasks demonstrate that our model outperforms the baselines that consist of state-of-the-art models. Knowledge graphs enable data scientists to learn end-to-end on heterogeneous knowledge. However, most end-to-end models solely learn from the relational information encoded in graphs' structure: raw values, encoded as literal nodes, are either omitted completely or treated as regular nodes without consideration for their values. In either case we lose potentially relevant information which could have otherwise been exploited by our learning methods. We propose a multimodal message passing network which not only learns end-to-end from the structure of graphs, but also from their possibly divers set of multimodal node features. Our model uses dedicated (neural) encoders to naturally learn embeddings for node features belonging to five different types of modalities, including numbers, texts, dates, images and geometries, which are projected into a joint representation space together with their relational information. We implement and demonstrate our model on node classification and link prediction for artificial and real-worlds datasets, and evaluate the effect that each modality has on the overall performance in an inverse ablation study. Our results indicate that end-to-end multimodal learning from any arbitrary knowledge graph is indeed possible, and that including multimodal information can significantly affect performance, but that much depends on the characteristics of the data.
The main goal of this paper is to introduce new local stability conditions for continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems. These stability conditions are based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) in combination with quadratic Lyapunov functions. Moreover, they integrate information on the membership functions at the origin and effectively leverage the linear structure of the underlying nonlinear system in the vicinity of the origin. As a result, the proposed conditions are proved to be less conservative compared to existing methods using fuzzy Lyapunov functions in the literature. Moreover, we establish that the proposed methods offer necessary and sufficient conditions for the local exponential stability of T-S fuzzy systems. The paper also includes discussions on the inherent limitations associated with fuzzy Lyapunov approaches. To demonstrate the theoretical results, we provide comprehensive examples that elucidate the core concepts and validate the efficacy of the proposed conditions.
MMEAD, or MS MARCO Entity Annotations and Disambiguations, is a resource for entity links for the MS MARCO datasets. We specify a format to store and share links for both document and passage collections of MS MARCO. Following this specification, we release entity links to Wikipedia for documents and passages in both MS MARCO collections (v1 and v2). Entity links have been produced by the REL and BLINK systems. MMEAD is an easy-to-install Python package, allowing users to load the link data and entity embeddings effortlessly. Using MMEAD takes only a few lines of code. Finally, we show how MMEAD can be used for IR research that uses entity information. We show how to improve recall@1000 and MRR@10 on more complex queries on the MS MARCO v1 passage dataset by using this resource. We also demonstrate how entity expansions can be used for interactive search applications.
