Image deblurring is a critical task in the field of image restoration, aiming to eliminate blurring artifacts. However, the challenge of addressing non-uniform blurring leads to an ill-posed problem, which limits the generalization performance of existing deblurring models. To solve the problem, we propose a framework SAM-Deblur, integrating prior knowledge from the Segment Anything Model (SAM) into the deblurring task for the first time. In particular, SAM-Deblur is divided into three stages. First, We preprocess the blurred images, obtain image masks via SAM, and propose a mask dropout method for training to enhance model robustness. Then, to fully leverage the structural priors generated by SAM, we propose a Mask Average Pooling (MAP) unit specifically designed to average SAM-generated segmented areas, serving as a plug-and-play component which can be seamlessly integrated into existing deblurring networks. Finally, we feed the fused features generated by the MAP Unit into the deblurring model to obtain a sharp image. Experimental results on the RealBlurJ, ReloBlur, and REDS datasets reveal that incorporating our methods improves NAFNet's PSNR by 0.05, 0.96, and 7.03, respectively. Despite considerable progress, the advancement of Panoptic Narrative Grounding (PNG) remains hindered by costly annotations. In this paper, we introduce a novel Semi-Supervised Panoptic Narrative Grounding (SS-PNG) learning scheme, capitalizing on a smaller set of labeled image-text pairs and a larger set of unlabeled pairs to achieve competitive performance. Unlike visual segmentation tasks, PNG involves one pixel belonging to multiple open-ended nouns. As a result, existing multi-class based semi-supervised segmentation frameworks cannot be directly applied to this task. To address this challenge, we first develop a novel SS-PNG Network (SS-PNG-NW) tailored to the SS-PNG setting. We thoroughly investigate strategies such as Burn-In and data augmentation to determine the optimal generic configuration for the SS-PNG-NW. Additionally, to tackle the issue of imbalanced pseudo-label quality, we propose a Quality-Based Loss Adjustment (QLA) approach to adjust the semi-supervised objective, resulting in an enhanced SS-PNG-NW+. Employing our proposed QLA, we improve BCE Loss and Dice loss at pixel and mask levels, respectively. We conduct extensive experiments on PNG datasets, with our SS-PNG-NW+ demonstrating promising results comparable to fully-supervised models across all data ratios. Remarkably, our SS-PNG-NW+ outperforms fully-supervised models with only 30% and 50% supervision data, exceeding their performance by 0.8% and 1.1% respectively. This highlights the effectiveness of our proposed SS-PNG-NW+ in overcoming the challenges posed by limited annotations and enhancing the applicability of PNG tasks. We present DreamCraft3D, a hierarchical 3D content generation method that produces high-fidelity and coherent 3D objects. We tackle the problem by leveraging a 2D reference image to guide the stages of geometry sculpting and texture boosting. A central focus of this work is to address the consistency issue that existing works encounter. To sculpt geometries that render coherently, we perform score distillation sampling via a view-dependent diffusion model. This 3D prior, alongside several training strategies, prioritizes the geometry consistency but compromises the texture fidelity. We further propose Bootstrapped Score Distillation to specifically boost the texture. We train a personalized diffusion model, Dreambooth, on the augmented renderings of the scene, imbuing it with 3D knowledge of the scene being optimized. The score distillation from this 3D-aware diffusion prior provides view-consistent guidance for the scene. Notably, through an alternating optimization of the diffusion prior and 3D scene representation, we achieve mutually reinforcing improvements: the optimized 3D scene aids in training the scene-specific diffusion model, which offers increasingly view-consistent guidance for 3D optimization. The optimization is thus bootstrapped and leads to substantial texture boosting. With tailored 3D priors throughout the hierarchical generation, DreamCraft3D generates coherent 3D objects with photorealistic renderings, advancing the state-of-the-art in 3D content generation. As autonomous driving technology matures, end-to-end methodologies have emerged as a leading strategy, promising seamless integration from perception to control via deep learning. However, existing systems grapple with challenges such as unexpected open set environments and the complexity of black-box models. At the same time, the evolution of deep learning introduces larger, multimodal foundational models, offering multi-modal visual and textual understanding. In this paper, we harness these multimodal foundation models to enhance the robustness and adaptability of autonomous driving systems, enabling out-of-distribution, end-to-end, multimodal, and more explainable autonomy. Specifically, we present an approach to apply end-to-end open-set (any environment/scene) autonomous driving that is capable of providing driving decisions from representations queryable by image and text. To do so, we introduce a method to extract nuanced spatial (pixel/patch-aligned) features from transformers to enable the encapsulation of both spatial and semantic features. Our approach (i) demonstrates unparalleled results in diverse tests while achieving significantly greater robustness in out-of-distribution situations, and (ii) allows the incorporation of latent space simulation (via text) for improved training (data augmentation via text) and policy debugging. Within the multimodal field, the key to integrating vision and language lies in establishing a good alignment strategy. Recently, benefiting from the success of self-supervised learning, significant progress has been made in multimodal semantic representation based on pre-trained models for vision and language. However, there is still room for improvement in visual semantic representation. The lack of spatial semantic coherence and vulnerability to noise makes it challenging for current pixel or patch-based methods to accurately extract complex scene boundaries. To this end, this paper develops superpixel as a comprehensive compact representation of learnable image data, which effectively reduces the number of visual primitives for subsequent processing by clustering perceptually similar pixels. To mine more precise topological relations, we propose a Multiscale Difference Graph Convolutional Network (MDGCN). It parses the entire image as a fine-to-coarse hierarchical structure of constituent visual patterns, and captures multiscale features by progressively merging adjacent superpixels as graph nodes. Moreover, we predict the differences between adjacent nodes through the graph structure, facilitating key information aggregation of graph nodes to reason actual semantic relations. Afterward, we design a multi-level fusion rule in a bottom-up manner to avoid understanding deviation by learning complementary spatial information at different regional scales. Our proposed method can be well applied to multiple downstream task learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method is competitive with other state-of-the-art methods in visual reasoning. Given a new $6DoF$ camera pose in an indoor environment, we study the challenging problem of predicting the view from that pose based on a set of reference RGBD views. Existing explicit or implicit 3D geometry construction methods are computationally expensive while those based on learning have predominantly focused on isolated views of object categories with regular geometric structure. Differing from the traditional \textit{render-inpaint} approach to new view synthesis in the real indoor environment, we propose a conditional generative adversarial neural network (P2I-NET) to directly predict the new view from the given pose. P2I-NET learns the conditional distribution of the images of the environment for establishing the correspondence between the camera pose and its view of the environment, and achieves this through a number of innovative designs in its architecture and training lost function. Two auxiliary discriminator constraints are introduced for enforcing the consistency between the pose of the generated image and that of the corresponding real world image in both the latent feature space and the real world pose space. Additionally a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) is introduced to further reinforce this consistency in the pixel space. We have performed extensive new view synthesis experiments on real indoor datasets. Results show that P2I-NET has superior performance against a number of NeRF based strong baseline models. In particular, we show that P2I-NET is 40 to 100 times faster than these competitor techniques while synthesising similar quality images. Furthermore, we contribute a new publicly available indoor environment dataset containing 22 high resolution RGBD videos where each frame also has accurate camera pose parameters.
Recent novel view synthesis methods obtain promising results for relatively small scenes, e.g., indoor environments and scenes with a few objects, but tend to fail for unbounded outdoor scenes with a single image as input. In this paper, we introduce SAMPLING, a Scene-adaptive Hierarchical Multiplane Images Representation for Novel View Synthesis from a Single Image based on improved multiplane images (MPI). Observing that depth distribution varies significantly for unbounded outdoor scenes, we employ an adaptive-bins strategy for MPI to arrange planes in accordance with each scene image. To represent intricate geometry and multi-scale details, we further introduce a hierarchical refinement branch, which results in high-quality synthesized novel views. Our method demonstrates considerable performance gains in synthesizing large-scale unbounded outdoor scenes using a single image on the KITTI dataset and generalizes well to the unseen Tanks and Temples dataset.The code and models will soon be made available.
In this paper, we introduce Handwritten augmentation, a new data augmentation for handwritten character images. This method focuses on augmenting handwritten image data by altering the shape of input characters in training. The proposed handwritten augmentation is similar to position augmentation, color augmentation for images but a deeper focus on handwritten characters. Handwritten augmentation is data-driven, easy to implement, and can be integrated with CNN-based optical character recognition models. Handwritten augmentation can be implemented along with commonly used data augmentation techniques such as cropping, rotating, and yields better performance of models for handwritten image datasets developed using optical character recognition methods.
In surgical computer vision applications, obtaining labeled training data is challenging due to data-privacy concerns and the need for expert annotation. Unpaired image-to-image translation techniques have been explored to automatically generate large annotated datasets by translating synthetic images to the realistic domain. However, preserving the structure and semantic consistency between the input and translated images presents significant challenges, mainly when there is a distributional mismatch in the semantic characteristics of the domains. This study empirically investigates unpaired image translation methods for generating suitable data in surgical applications, explicitly focusing on semantic consistency. We extensively evaluate various state-of-the-art image translation models on two challenging surgical datasets and downstream semantic segmentation tasks. We find that a simple combination of structural-similarity loss and contrastive learning yields the most promising results. Quantitatively, we show that the data generated with this approach yields higher semantic consistency and can be used more effectively as training data.
Realistic image super-resolution (Real-ISR) aims to reproduce perceptually realistic image details from a low-quality input. The commonly used adversarial training based Real-ISR methods often introduce unnatural visual artifacts and fail to generate realistic textures for natural scene images. The recently developed generative stable diffusion models provide a potential solution to Real-ISR with pre-learned strong image priors. However, the existing methods along this line either fail to keep faithful pixel-wise image structures or resort to extra skipped connections to reproduce details, which requires additional training in image space and limits their extension to other related tasks in latent space such as image stylization. In this work, we propose a pixel-aware stable diffusion (PASD) network to achieve robust Real-ISR as well as personalized stylization. In specific, a pixel-aware cross attention module is introduced to enable diffusion models perceiving image local structures in pixel-wise level, while a degradation removal module is used to extract degradation insensitive features to guide the diffusion process together with image high level information. By simply replacing the base diffusion model with a personalized one, our method can generate diverse stylized images without the need to collect pairwise training data. PASD can be easily integrated into existing diffusion models such as Stable Diffusion. Experiments on Real-ISR and personalized stylization demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach.
