HyperZ$\cdot$Z$\cdot$W Operator Connects Slow-Fast Networks for Full Context Interaction

The self-attention mechanism utilizes large implicit weight matrices, programmed through dot product-based activations with very few trainable parameters, to enable long sequence modeling. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of discarding residual learning by employing large implicit kernels to achieve full context interaction at each layer of the network. To accomplish it, we introduce coordinate-based implicit MLPs as a slow network to generate hyper-kernels for another fast convolutional network. To get context-varying weights for fast dynamic encoding, we propose a $\mathrm{Hyper}\mathcal{Z{\cdot}Z{\cdot}W}$ operator that connects hyper-kernels ($\mathcal{W}$) and hidden activations ($\mathcal{Z}$) through simple elementwise multiplication, followed by convolution of $\mathcal{Z}$ using the context-dependent $\mathcal{W}$. Based on this design, we present a novel Terminator architecture that integrates hyper-kernels of different sizes to produce multi-branch hidden representations for enhancing the feature extraction capability of each layer. Additionally, a bottleneck layer is employed to compress the concatenated channels, allowing only valuable information to propagate to the subsequent layers. Notably, our model incorporates several innovative components and exhibits excellent properties, such as introducing local feedback error for updating the slow network, stable zero-mean features, faster training convergence, and fewer model parameters. Extensive experimental results on pixel-level 1D and 2D image classification benchmarks demonstrate the superior performance of our architecture.

Improving Image Restoration through Removing Degradations in Textual Representations

In this paper, we introduce a new perspective for improving image restoration by removing degradation in the textual representations of a given degraded image. Intuitively, restoration is much easier on text modality than image one. For example, it can be easily conducted by removing degradation-related words while keeping the content-aware words. Hence, we combine the advantages of images in detail description and ones of text in degradation removal to perform restoration. To address the cross-modal assistance, we propose to map the degraded images into textual representations for removing the degradations, and then convert the restored textual representations into a guidance image for assisting image restoration. In particular, We ingeniously embed an image-to-text mapper and text restoration module into CLIP-equipped text-to-image models to generate the guidance. Then, we adopt a simple coarse-to-fine approach to dynamically inject multi-scale information from guidance to image restoration networks. Extensive experiments are conducted on various image restoration tasks, including deblurring, dehazing, deraining, and denoising, and all-in-one image restoration. A locally statistical active contour model for SAR image segmentation can be solved by denoising algorithms

In this paper, we propose a novel locally statistical variational active contour model based on I-divergence-TV denoising model, which hybrides geodesic active contour (GAC) model with active contours without edges (ACWE) model, and can be used to segment images corrupted by multiplicative gamma noise. By adding a diffusion term into the level set evolution (LSE) equation of the proposed model, we construct a reaction-diffusion (RD) equation, which can gradually regularize the level set function (LSF) to be piecewise constant in each segment domain and gain the stable solution. We further transform the proposed model into classic ROF model by adding a proximity term. Inspired by a fast denoising algorithm proposed by Jia-Zhao recently, we propose two fast fixed point algorithms to solve SAR image segmentation question. Experimental results for real SAR images show that the proposed image segmentation model can efficiently stop the contours at weak or blurred edges, and can automatically detect the exterior and interior boundaries of images with multiplicative gamma noise. The proposed FPRD1/FPRD2 models are about 1/2 (or less than) of the time required for the SBRD model based on the Split Bregman technique.

Data-Free Generalized Zero-Shot Learning

Deep learning models have the ability to extract rich knowledge from large-scale datasets. However, the sharing of data has become increasingly challenging due to concerns regarding data copyright and privacy. Consequently, this hampers the effective transfer of knowledge from existing data to novel downstream tasks and concepts. Zero-shot learning (ZSL) approaches aim to recognize new classes by transferring semantic knowledge learned from base classes. However, traditional generative ZSL methods often require access to real images from base classes and rely on manually annotated attributes, which presents challenges in terms of data restrictions and model scalability. To this end, this paper tackles a challenging and practical problem dubbed as data-free zero-shot learning (DFZSL), where only the CLIP-based base classes data pre-trained classifier is available for zero-shot classification. Specifically, we propose a generic framework for DFZSL, which consists of three main components. Firstly, to recover the virtual features of the base data, we model the CLIP features of base class images as samples from a von Mises-Fisher (vMF) distribution based on the pre-trained classifier. Secondly, we leverage the text features of CLIP as low-cost semantic information and propose a feature-language prompt tuning (FLPT) method to further align the virtual image features and textual features. Thirdly, we train a conditional generative model using the well-aligned virtual image features and corresponding semantic text features, enabling the generation of new classes features and achieve better zero-shot generalization. Our framework has been evaluated on five commonly used benchmarks for generalized ZSL, as well as 11 benchmarks for the base-to-new ZSL. Towards Robust Hyperspectral Anomaly Detection: Decomposing Background, Anomaly, and Mixed Noise via Convex Optimization

We propose a novel hyperspectral (HS) anomaly detection method that is robust to various types of noise. Most of existing HS anomaly detection methods are designed for cases where a given HS image is noise-free or is contaminated only by small Gaussian noise. However, in real-world situations, observed HS images are often degraded by various types of noise, such as sparse noise and stripe noise, due to sensor failure or calibration errors, significantly affecting the detection performance. To address this problem, this article establishes a robust HS anomaly detection method with a mechanism that can properly remove mixed noise while separating background and anomaly parts. Specifically, we newly formulate a constrained convex optimization problem to decompose background and anomaly parts, and three types of noise from a given HS image. Then, we develop an efficient algorithm based on a preconditioned variant of a primal-dual splitting method to solve this problem. Through comparison with existing methods, including state-of-the-art ones, we illustrate that the proposed method achieves a detection accuracy comparable to state-of-the-art methods in noise-free cases and is significantly more robust than these methods in noisy cases.

Application analysis of ai technology combined with spiral CT scanning in early lung cancer screening

At present, the incidence and fatality rate of lung cancer in China rank first among all malignant tumors. Despite the continuous development and improvement of China's medical level, the overall 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients is still lower than 20% and is staged. A number of studies have confirmed that early diagnosis and treatment of early stage lung cancer is of great significance to improve the prognosis of patients. In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has gradually begun to be applied in oncology. ai is used in cancer screening, clinical diagnosis, radiation therapy (image acquisition, at-risk organ segmentation, image calibration and delivery) and other aspects of rapid development. However, whether medical ai can be socialized depends on the public's attitude and acceptance to a certain extent. However, at present, there are few studies on the diagnosis of early lung cancer by AI technology combined with SCT scanning. In view of this, this study applied the combined method in early lung cancer screening, aiming to find a safe and efficient screening mode and provide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

New Job, New Gender? Measuring the Social Bias in Image Generation Models

Image generation models can generate or edit images from a given text. Recent advancements in image generation technology, exemplified by DALL-E and Midjourney, have been groundbreaking. These advanced models, despite their impressive capabilities, are often trained on massive Internet datasets, making them susceptible to generating content that perpetuates social stereotypes and biases, which can lead to severe consequences. Prior research on assessing bias within image generation models suffers from several shortcomings, including limited accuracy, reliance on extensive human labor, and lack of comprehensive analysis. In this paper, we propose BiasPainter, a novel metamorphic testing framework that can accurately, automatically and comprehensively trigger social bias in image generation models. BiasPainter uses a diverse range of seed images of individuals and prompts the image generation models to edit these images using gender, race, and age-neutral queries. These queries span 62 professions, 39 activities, 57 types of objects, and 70 personality traits. The framework then compares the edited images to the original seed images, focusing on any changes related to gender, race, and age. BiasPainter adopts a testing oracle that these characteristics should not be modified when subjected to neutral prompts. Built upon this design, BiasPainter can trigger the social bias and evaluate the fairness of image generation models. To evaluate the effectiveness of BiasPainter, we use BiasPainter to test five widely-used commercial image generation software and models, such as stable diffusion and Midjourney. Experimental results show that 100\% of the generated test cases can successfully trigger social bias in image generation models.

Bilateral Reference for High-Resolution Dichotomous Image Segmentation

We introduce a novel bilateral reference framework (***BiRefNet***) for high-resolution dichotomous image segmentation (DIS). It comprises two essential components: the localization module (LM) and the reconstruction module (RM) with our proposed bilateral reference (BiRef). The LM aids in object localization using global semantic information. Within the RM, we utilize BiRef for the reconstruction process, where hierarchical patches of images provide the source reference and gradient maps serve as the target reference. These components collaborate to generate the final predicted maps. We also introduce auxiliary gradient supervision to enhance focus on regions with finer details. Furthermore, we outline practical training strategies tailored for DIS to improve map quality and training process. To validate the general applicability of our approach, we conduct extensive experiments on four tasks to evince that *BiRefNet* exhibits remarkable performance, outperforming task-specific cutting-edge methods across all benchmarks.

Benchmarking Large Multimodal Models against Common Corruptions

This technical report aims to fill a deficiency in the assessment of large multimodal models (LMMs) by specifically examining the self-consistency of their outputs when subjected to common corruptions. We investigate the cross-modal interactions between text, image, and speech, encompassing four essential generation tasks: text-to-image, image-to-text, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text. We create a comprehensive benchmark, named MMCBench, that covers more than 100 popular LMMs (totally over 150 model checkpoints). A thorough evaluation under common corruptions is critical for practical deployment and facilitates a better understanding of the reliability of cutting-edge LMMs. The benchmarking code is available at https://github.com/sail-sg/MMCBench

Rethinking Personalized Federated Learning with Clustering-based Dynamic Graph Propagation

Most existing personalized federated learning approaches are based on intricate designs, which often require complex implementation and tuning. In order to address this limitation, we propose a simple yet effective personalized federated learning framework. Specifically, during each communication round, we group clients into multiple clusters based on their model training status and data distribution on the server side. We then consider each cluster center as a node equipped with model parameters and construct a graph that connects these nodes using weighted edges. Additionally, we update the model parameters at each node by propagating information across the entire graph. Subsequently, we design a precise personalized model distribution strategy to allow clients to obtain the most suitable model from the server side. We conduct experiments on three image benchmark datasets and create synthetic structured datasets with three types of typologies. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed work.
