In recent years, the demand for dental implants has surged, driven by their high success rates and esthetic advantages. However, accurate prediction of missing teeth for precise digital implant planning remains a challenge due to the intricate nature of dental structures and the variability in tooth loss patterns. This study presents a novel framework for accurate prediction of missing teeth in different patterns, facilitating digital implant planning. The proposed framework begins by estimating point-to-point correspondence among a dataset of dental mesh models reconstructed from CBCT images of healthy subjects. Subsequently, tooth dictionaries are constructed for each tooth type, encoding their position and shape information based on the established point-to-point correspondence. To predict missing teeth in a given dental mesh model, sparse coefficients are learned by sparsely representing adjacent teeth of the missing teeth using the corresponding tooth dictionaries. These coefficients are then applied to the dictionaries of the missing teeth to generate accurate predictions of their positions and shapes. The evaluation results on real subjects shows that our proposed framework achieves an average prediction error of 1.04mm for predictions of single missing tooth and an average prediction error of 1.33mm for the prediction of 14 missing teeth, which demonstrates its capability of accurately predicting missing teeth in various patterns. By accurately predicting missing teeth, dental professionals can improve the planning and placement of dental implants, leading to better esthetic and functional outcomes for patients undergoing dental implant procedures.
Efficiently selecting an appropriate spike stream data length to extract precise information is the key to the spike vision tasks. To address this issue, we propose a dynamic timing representation for spike streams. Based on multi-layers architecture, it applies dilated convolutions on temporal dimension to extract features on multi-temporal scales with few parameters. And we design layer attention to dynamically fuse these features. Moreover, we propose an unsupervised learning method for optical flow estimation in a spike-based manner to break the dependence on labeled data. In addition, to verify the robustness, we also build a spike-based synthetic validation dataset for extreme scenarios in autonomous driving, denoted as SSES dataset. It consists of various corner cases. Experiments show that our method can predict optical flow from spike streams in different high-speed scenes, including real scenes. For instance, our method gets $15\%$ and $19\%$ error reduction from the best spike-based work, SCFlow, in $\Delta t=10$ and $\Delta t=20$ respectively which are the same settings as the previous works.
Large-scale multimodal language models (LMMs) have achieved remarkable success in general domains. However, the exploration of diagnostic language models based on multimodal cephalometric medical data remains limited. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal cephalometric analysis and diagnostic dialogue model. Firstly, a multimodal orthodontic medical dataset is constructed, comprising cephalometric images and doctor-patient dialogue data, with automatic analysis of cephalometric landmarks using U-net and generation of diagnostic reports. Then, the cephalometric dataset and generated diagnostic reports are separately fine-tuned on Minigpt-4 and VisualGLM. Results demonstrate that the CephGPT-4 model exhibits excellent performance and has the potential to revolutionize orthodontic measurement and diagnostic applications. These innovations hold revolutionary application potential in the field of orthodontics.
Our comprehension of biological neuronal networks has profoundly influenced the evolution of artificial neural networks (ANNs). However, the neurons employed in ANNs exhibit remarkable deviations from their biological analogs, mainly due to the absence of complex dendritic trees encompassing local nonlinearity. Despite such disparities, previous investigations have demonstrated that point neurons can functionally substitute dendritic neurons in executing computational tasks. In this study, we scrutinized the importance of nonlinear dendrites within neural networks. By employing machine-learning methodologies, we assessed the impact of dendritic structure nonlinearity on neural network performance. Our findings reveal that integrating dendritic structures can substantially enhance model capacity and performance while keeping signal communication costs effectively restrained. This investigation offers pivotal insights that hold considerable implications for the development of future neural network accelerators.
Contrastive learning based pretraining methods have recently exhibited impressive success in diverse fields. In this paper, we propose GEmo-CLAP, a kind of efficient gender-attribute-enhanced contrastive language-audio pretraining (CLAP) model for speech emotion recognition. To be specific, we first build an effective emotion CLAP model Emo-CLAP for emotion recognition, utilizing various self-supervised learning based pre-trained models. Then, considering the importance of the gender attribute in speech emotion modeling, two GEmo-CLAP approaches are further proposed to integrate the emotion and gender information of speech signals, forming more reasonable objectives. Extensive experiments on the IEMOCAP corpus demonstrate that our proposed two GEmo-CLAP approaches consistently outperform the baseline Emo-CLAP with different pre-trained models, while also achieving superior recognition performance compared with other state-of-the-art methods.
Multi-Sensor Fusion (MSF) based perception systems have been the foundation in supporting many industrial applications and domains, such as self-driving cars, robotic arms, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Over the past few years, the fast progress in data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) has brought a fast-increasing trend to empower MSF systems by deep learning techniques to further improve performance, especially on intelligent systems and their perception systems. Although quite a few AI-enabled MSF perception systems and techniques have been proposed, up to the present, limited benchmarks that focus on MSF perception are publicly available. Given that many intelligent systems such as self-driving cars are operated in safety-critical contexts where perception systems play an important role, there comes an urgent need for a more in-depth understanding of the performance and reliability of these MSF systems. To bridge this gap, we initiate an early step in this direction and construct a public benchmark of AI-enabled MSF-based perception systems including three commonly adopted tasks (i.e., object detection, object tracking, and depth completion). Based on this, to comprehensively understand MSF systems' robustness and reliability, we design 14 common and realistic corruption patterns to synthesize large-scale corrupted datasets. We further perform a systematic evaluation of these systems through our large-scale evaluation. Our results reveal the vulnerability of the current AI-enabled MSF perception systems, calling for researchers and practitioners to take robustness and reliability into account when designing AI-enabled MSF.
The out-of-distribution (OOD) problem generally arises when neural networks encounter data that significantly deviates from the training data distribution, \ie, in-distribution (InD). In this paper, we study the OOD problem from a neuron activation view. We first formulate neuron activation states by considering both the neuron output and its influence on model decisions. Then, we propose the concept of \textit{neuron activation coverage} (NAC), which characterizes the neuron behaviors under InD and OOD data. Leveraging our NAC, we show that 1) InD and OOD inputs can be naturally separated based on the neuron behavior, which significantly eases the OOD detection problem and achieves a record-breaking performance of 0.03% FPR95 on ResNet-50, outperforming the previous best method by 20.67%; 2) a positive correlation between NAC and model generalization ability consistently holds across architectures and datasets, which enables a NAC-based criterion for evaluating model robustness. By comparison with the traditional validation criterion, we show that NAC-based criterion not only can select more robust models, but also has a stronger correlation with OOD test performance.
Large Language Models (LLMs) have been demonstrated effective for code generation. Due to the complexity and opacity of LLMs, little is known about how these models generate code. To deepen our understanding, we investigate whether LLMs attend to the same parts of a natural language description as human programmers during code generation. An analysis of five LLMs on a popular benchmark, HumanEval, revealed a consistent misalignment between LLMs' and programmers' attention. Furthermore, we found that there is no correlation between the code generation accuracy of LLMs and their alignment with human programmers. Through a quantitative experiment and a user study, we confirmed that, among twelve different attention computation methods, attention computed by the perturbation-based method is most aligned with human attention and is constantly favored by human programmers. Our findings highlight the need for human-aligned LLMs for better interpretability and programmer trust.
The scarcity of data presents a critical obstacle to the efficacy of medical visionlanguage pre-training (VLP). A potential solution lies in the combination of datasets from various language communities. Nevertheless, the main challenge stems from the complexity of integrating diverse syntax and semantics, language-specific medical terminology, and culture-specific implicit knowledge. Therefore, one crucial aspect to consider is the presence of community bias caused by different languages. This paper presents a novel framework named Unifying Cross-Lingual Medical Vision-Language Pre-Training (Med-UniC), designed to integrate multimodal medical data from the two most prevalent languages, English and Spanish. Specifically, we propose Cross-lingual Text Alignment Regularization (CTR) to explicitly unify cross-lingual semantic representations of medical reports originating from diverse language communities. CTR is optimized through latent language disentanglement, rendering our optimization objective to not depend on negative samples, thereby significantly mitigating the bias from determining positive-negative sample pairs within analogous medical reports. Furthermore, it ensures that the cross-lingual representation is not biased toward any specific language community. Med-UniC reaches superior performance across 5 medical image tasks and 10 datasets encompassing over 30 diseases, offering a versatile framework for unifying multi-modal medical data within diverse linguistic communities. The experimental outcomes highlight the presence of community bias in cross-lingual VLP. Reducing this bias enhances the performance not only in vision-language tasks but also in uni-modal visual tasks.
